Movie Studio 18 Slow at startup, open .vf files

Oskar-Berntorp wrote on 7/30/2021, 2:43 PM

Hi,

I did a couple of days ago buy and install the Movie Studio 18 Software, but there are one problem regarding startup and a question regarding .vf files. The startup is slow as the timeline section is not displayed for 30-60 seconds or so.

I have Windows 10, my CPH is a i7-9750H, 32GB RAM.

When installing the program I had problems with a 1603 error due to C++ Redistributable being installed from since before, therefore I expect this problem again if reinstalling. The program installation had no problem, once I did realice how to solve the problem (uninstalling the C++ Redistributable).

When installing I did first try to install to see what the C++ component name was. Then the installer uninstalled the software and lastly I could install the program. I do also have Movie Studio 16 installed as I need to be able to edit .vf files (Which does not seems to to open in v18?).

To be clear, my second question is if I can not open .vf in this version of Movie Studio?

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Oskar Berntorp

@Oskar-Berntorp

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

In its current incarnation MMS 18 cannot open project files from earlier versions of VMS. We are told the developers are working on this and it is expected to be resolved in a future patch.

Thank you @emmrecs, what about the slow start. Either way, I do look forward to learn this program, as it is many changes since version 16 (which I also have installed).

Sorry, I can't help you with the slow start problem. I don't have MMS 18, but rather MEP 2021 Premium (which is essentially the same product, hence, for you, those many changes since version 16) and I don't see the start-up of it as slow.

Hi Oscar.

I do have Movie Studio 16 and Movie Edit Pro 2021 (as Jeff said, basically the same program as MMS 18) and just timed them for opening. MMS 16, twenty seconds on my machine. MEP 2021, nine seconds but I don't have either set to open the last project. A lot may depend on differences in the computer parts used in the build.

Hi @CubeAce,

Thank you very much for answering, I have begun learning how the program works compared to former versions. I have now clocked it and to start the program itself without opening a project from explorer takes approximately 30 seconds, opening a project takes around 15 seconds.

I gues that this is something I will get used to, and I do also realize that the difference in startup does depend on that version 18 is essentially a brand new program. Which I do actualy think is a very robust and competent program.

Once again, thank you @CubeAce and @emmrecs for your commitment to answer.

Happy editing

Hi Oskar.

You will find some projects load a lot into ram and the more effects and the longer the project, the longer it can take to load. In some respects MMS 18 is going to be more resource hungry than VMS 16 and in my opinion works better on average with Intel and nvidia than AMD based systems but once you get used to the difference in work flow and used to how to get the best results from the exporting options that the quality of output at least equals VMS 16. While you don't quite get the choice of encoding that the Vegas version offers, especially with audio, the end result on my system at least is indistinguishable and I am monitoring audio through Tannoy and RAM Acoustic studio monitors.

If you have any problems please come back and ask for solutions.
