Movie Pro 2025 Freezes

Lisa-Walter wrote on 9/25/2024, 1:16 PM

Magix Movie Pro 2025 keeps locking up and freezing on my computer. it was happening randomly but now sooner and sonner, it will be working fine and then out of nowhere my computer freezes. I have to reboot the computer and start the program over. If I am in the middle of working and I forget to save it when it freezes all my work is gone.

@Lisa-Walter

Welcome to the Magix users forums.

I'm assuming you mean Movie Studio 2025, since there is no such product as Movie Pro 2025!

Can you tell us exactly which edition of MMS 2025 you have, please?

Then, can you also tell us about your computer? This post will show you the sort of information we really do need to be able to have any chance at all of helping you!

Then, please tell us about the actual video files you are using. This tutorial will show you how to use the free MediaInfo utility to analyse any one of the problem files.

Then (and sorry for all the questions) is it possible for you to tell us exactly what you are doing with the program at the time it freezes and whether it always freezes at the same point in your editing?

I uninstalled 2025 and reinstalling 2023. Hopefully I can finish my best friends memorial video for this weekend!

Still the same problem with 2023

@Lisa-Walter

Hi Lisa.

You still haven't answered two of Jeff's questions or presumably read the post Jeff gave a link to to read.

The problem could be caused by one of many of your systems peripherals conditions or file types in use. The machine itself should be capable of running either program. Possible causes could be anything from insufficient drive space for the temp files that the program creates, reads, writes to disk as well as analyzing and playing back alterations you make in real time, which is a lot of throughput and requires a lot of free drive space, to a problem with a file type such as a variable frame rate video, such as those produced by Go-Pros that would have to first be re-encoded to a constant frame rate video to play back correctly in a video editor. Subsequently a project started in one program may not run smoothly on a newer program due to changes to some of the plugins or some plugins being updated or changed. Such a project if then saved in the newer program may not then play correctly if then opened in an older version of the program.

These are just possibilities and may not be the cause of your problems at all but without much more information it is difficult for anyone here to even begin to help you fault find.

Ideally your C: drive should only contain programs and you should have at least one other fast external drive connected via a fast USB port for your project files to be read from.

My guess at this point is everything is residing on your C: drive and it has been filling up over time. You yourself say this was a gradual build up of unresponsiveness which seems to suggest there is no longer sufficient space for those files to be created and read easily or quickly. But again I could well be wrong as it is a guess based on the limited amount of information provided so far.

@CubeAce Thank you for your respone and I am very sorry for not finishing answering questions. My project is creating a memorial video using about 200 jpg pictures and zooming in and out of each one and using 5 songs I edited and spliced. I noticed it only froze when moving pictures around the timeline. As far as the MediaInfo utility to analyse any one of the problem files, I have not taken the time yrt to read through how to do that. I'm on a time crunch with other work, and as far as the Hard Drive space I have plenty, 245GB used and 638GB free space.

CubeAce wrote on 9/27/2024, 4:05 AM

@Lisa-Walter

Hi Lisa.

Thank you for the additional information.

Technically you should not be having a problem. The laptop should be capable of at least playing that project back without freezing. One problem that could cause this is if you are getting your images from an SD memory card or similar. Although SD and other types of memory cards are now quite quick they do not read and write together at speed. The files should reside on either a fast M.2 or NVMe SSD in a portable housing or a good SATA drive like a Western Digital Elements portable drive plugged into your fastest USB connection which would be your USB-C port.

When moving an image or editing it by altering it's tonal value or sharpness, the program will record those alterations to the project drive. If that drive is either a memory card or online cloud storage such as One Drive or Google drive the data flow rate is not fast enough and has to wait for the system to catch up. Moving an image around on the timeline would come under that heading of having to communicate to the project folder.

In that instance it may be advisable to move the files to your C: drive to see if things improve but it's not ideal.

For that, create a folder on the C: drive and then use the 'Copy project and media into Folder' option under the program's File / Backup Copy option (Alt + S) Then disconnect the external drive and open the project from the C: drive folder. I have found leaving the drive the original project was stored on sometimes makes the program still read the files from the original location. I have no idea why and may be something that only happens on my machine but better to be sure.

@Lisa-Walter Hi, there's a couple of other reasons that may cause a crash but your PC should be more than capable of exporting your project,

  • If it's a laptop check it's not overheating, the fans on laptops can draw in dust from fabric such as clothing or the cloth can block the vents preventing the cooling fans doing their job.
  •
  • The RTX 4060 drivers may be out of date, you can use Nvidia Geforce to help keep the drivers up to date. https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/geforce-experience/
  •
  • As for the MediaInfo thing that was mentioned it's very simple, The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

@Gid @Lisa-Walter

Hi Gid.

While I agree with your other two points if the source files are only jpgs, they should not be a problem in themselves. I regularly use full sized jpegs that are over 15MB each and have no trouble with stuttering or freezing when I put them or move them on the timeline even if I use Size Position Rotation on each one and add sharpening or other effects, and my machine is nowhere near as powerful as that laptop. I have even used 60 MB tiff images with no problems and PSD files even larger than that.

Have you had problems with jpgs?

MediaInfo is not going to really give any useful information on jpgs beyond their size which can be found by just hovering a mouse over them in file explorer. In fact I find the MediaInfo data to be slightly misleading as it shows the jpg as it would appear if streamed at it's full size and (Much larger than it's actual size) and has no bearing on how it performs within MMS or VPX or it's resolution once brought down to HD or 4K video on export.

At least that's the case on my machine.

This bloomin' site won't allow me to upload an example image to show the differences in reporting of the file data in MediaInfo yet.

Will try later.

@CubeAce Hi, for the MediaInfo yep on image files the info wouldn't show anything useful, I don't think so anyway, & MediaInfo of the audio wouldn't show much useful either, If it plays in MMS it should export 🤷‍♂️ I was just trying to simplify the MediaInfo process for the OP as it can be a useful educational tool in general 👍

I tagged you in that comment because of your previous comment 'variable frame rate video, such as those produced by Go-Pros', . MediaInfo says Constant not variable? I have an old GoPro4 but no files for that so can only go on what the GoPro11 says & I only have MediaInfo to tell me the FR.. If you want you can have a look yourself.. https://drive.google.com/file/d/116hGMAQKtjma5O9GAnYE7pWCkKI05yV9/view?usp=sharing

@CubeAce Sorry forgot to say no I don't have problems with jpegs, the only files i have problems with are .mov, some play but stutter & some just don't play at all, so I avoid those completely with MMS, that's not relevant to this post tho,

I haven't made an image based video in ages so I'll try one later, but it's hard for me to compare my results with others as my PC is a bit more powerful & the configuration is different, I have no integrated GPU. That being said if there's a problem with MMS or any other software it still shows despite the specs of my PC

Hello Lisa,

When I get such a problem of crashes and freezes, I always delete the videodeluxe.ini file and the Cache folder first. It is possible that the videodeluxe.ini file has become corrupt, as well as the Cache folder. I delete both items and usually the problem is solved.

When you delete these items, they are automatically created again when you start Video Deluxe.

  • For the Videodeluxe.ini file go to: C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Videodeluxe31_premium
  • And for the Cache folder go to: C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Common

Please note!!

The AppData and the Cache folder are hidden items. To show these items click on: Show / Show and check File name extensions and Hidden items

Good luck, Rob

Als een kwestie onoplosbaar lijkt, komt dat niet omdat je de oplossing niet ziet, maar omdat je het probleem niet ziet.

Hello Ray,

Good to hear that your upload problem has been solved.

Is it true that there are no Magix program versions listed in my signature. I have several Magix programs on my computer.

But these are my programs

I answer the questions of forum members, as much as possible in their Magix program. I can put my Magix programs in another language.

Greetings,

Rob

Hi Rob.

No the problem came back, at least for now. It's probably the connection between here and the servers. Changes every time I visit. You can blame Brexit if you like 😂.

That's a lot of Magix software. Still as a mod I'm not overly surprised.

Ray.

Ray.

Hi Rob. I have all picture files on my C: drive, but they are like 5 files deep. I also save the vodeo on the hard drive in it's own file filder too nest to photos. It plays back great! it just freezes if I try to move or lengthen a picture or use the plus to zoom in. Weird!

Tried this and still have the problem!

Hi Lisa.

To me it sounds like the system is getting too many interrupt calls to read write and process all that data back and forth to the same drive. It's not that the drive is not fast enough but the processor may be being taxed or waiting for the next instruction that can't get through because of a change you made. Try exporting the whole project to your second drive (If it is fast and and connected to the USB-C port or better yet internal) as I suggested earlier when I said

For that, create a folder on the C: drive and then use the 'Copy project and media into Folder' option under the program's File / Backup Copy option (Alt + S)

except not on your C: drive this time and run the project from the project file on your second drive and see if things improve.

Ray.

  • Like this - or this - ( @CubeAce The MediaInfo pic is for a GoPro11)

I always run laptop fans under all my laptops. So it couldn't be that.

Hi Lisa,

It was worth a try, but unfortunately this is not the solution for you.

I agree with Ray, that there is probably too much swapping to do if you want to move or extend photos. What you could try is to activate the flashlight (blue) on the toolbar and check: Reduce resolution and Reduce framerate. This will not affect when you export the project.

Good luck,
Rob

Hi

As bioth MMS 2023 and 2025 are affected, this could be a GPU driver issue, as @Gid sugested above, check that both the Intel integrated GPU driver and thr RTX 4060 drivers are up to date.

The current driver versions are:

  • Intel iGPU    32.0.101.6079/32.0.101.5736 - yours will be one of these version numbers, the driver applies both to your iGPU and the ARC series of GPU's

  • RTX 4060    R550 U9 (553.09), in Windows format 32.0.15.5309
