Movie Editor pro 17 Plus - DVD

Microsoft XP professional - sp3 - including the latest updates - May - 2013

Attempted many times to install the software on a computer running Windows XP SP3, all updates installed.

The installation precedes to alomst half of it and then the message "The cabinet file '_e342cxy.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.  This could indcate a network error, an error in reading from the CD-R0M or a problem with this package."

Unistalled the damn program, cleaned the temp folder and tried it again .... the same error message showed up!!

I did even copy the whole contents of the DVD to the hard drive and attempted the installation directly from the hard drive, but I got exactly the same result.

Obviously it is not only mine cause I saw another guy left a similar complain message ...!!!

 Frustrating and disappointing!

Hi

Has this DVD been used before to install the software on the XP machine?

If not have you just purchased the software from a supplier?  If so return it to them - the DVD may be faulty.

Hi John

I heard from another user which he could install it on VISTA without any problems but he got the same problem as mine on installing Windows XP. Therefore there is nothing wrong with this DVD. To my mind the software sucks and probably it needs updates! - However finally I could install the main software (check off all addons) but the addons are much needed as well. Miscrosoft  updates Windows XP and probably some older softwares (tested before) are not compatiable with the new updates (my personal opinion). I believe Magix should put the updates for "addons" online so we as the users could easily download and install them afterwards.

 . Thanks anyway!

Did the other user test your DVD ?

MEP 2013 is the latest version - update?.

The problem is with the DVD or your computer.

Until you gives us clear answers to the questions we ask and refrain from comments like 'the program sucks' you make it very difficult for us to help you.

Help us to help you - come back with clear specific answers to the questions.

Well, the answer is NO. This DVD is a brand new (an unopened, undamaged Magix box)!

Dear John, I am fully aware of the newest versions MEP2013 becasue all information about the newst softares can be found on the Magix website. Thanks but I am still using Windows XP and this software of yours (MEP 17 plus) should be compatiable with Windows XP. Is this correct or not?

I am sure this software has been compatiable before but not any longer because of the updates from Microsoft (probably the newest security updates or Microsoft .net Framwork 4)

I assume you are working on the support section. I am sure you want to help me but "blaming the problem on DVD" is the easier way of getting rid of the responsibily which you have got on your side. If I were you, I would test a similar DVD and install the the software (video editor pro 17 plus) on Windows XP, sp3 + latest updates. I am almost sure that you would be facing a similar problem as well.

Please talk about it with other guys on the updating sections. I hope this will help you to find the bugs because probably other customers will ask you about the same problem!!!

Sehr dankbar!

Hi

. . . . I assume you are working on the support section. . . .

Actually no - I do not work for Magix.  This is a user forum and I am a regular user of Magix software like most of the other posters here -  ralftaro and shirt excepted.

I am a very experienced user of several Magix products - I have used MEP since version 11, ie since 2007, and upgraded via versions 14, 15, 16, 17, MX to 2013.

. . . . probably the newest security updates or Microsoft .net Framework 4 . . . .

Security updates for XP will not affect the installation and MEP does not use .Net framework, hpwever it does install all the Microsoft components it requires if they are not already installed.

MEP 17 always has been and still is XP compatible so there is no problem with the software compatability with your OS.

What can cause problems installing is a faulty DVD, certain Anti-virus programs or another problem with your computer.

To prove the DVD - do you have access to another computer on which you can try an install?  If this succeeds do not activate it - just uninstall - to preserve your allowed number of activations?

Also try the following:-

Download the Magix Cleaner tool from here and run it to clear out any remnants left from the bad install - you may have to register on the site if you are not already registered, before trying a reinstall preferably with your  Anti-virus disabled and the computer disconnected from the Internet.

Much appreciated! There is no doubt that you've got a great knowledge about these softwares and I am grateful to you. However MEP17+ does use .Net framework and as a matter of fact it even installs .net 3.5 framwork because probably it uses for (Firebird SQl server, Magix edition - FABS, MAGIX media database, - plugins, etc). By the way, no other programs were running during the installation (not even Anti-virus) but windows explorer and the necessary services.

I will try to return the DVD to the seller!!

Much obliged!
