Check when your Update Service expires in your account at magix.com, - the email warnings usually start at least a month before it is due. If still current then you can see if MEP it will update online.

Having said that, I have had no emails regarding my Update Service expiring!!!

I would suggest you create a backup image of your C: drive before updating given the VPX 13 issues, so you can revert back if necessary, I use Macrium Reflect and/or CloneZilla to image my drives.

I've been getting the emails for a couple of weeks now, obviously Magix want a bit of extra revenue, advising people to update early; my Update Service expires in 13 days time so it's within the time frame of the offer anyway.

I wouldn't worry about the offer expiring.

I am still getting the same upgrade offer every month for VPX 13 and I am on VPX 11.

Now, it they get all the bugs fixed, then I'd worry. 🤣🤣😉

You are lucky to see that you can still purchase MEP. I see only subscriptions.

Does anyone else see that you can actually purchase the program?

My Update Service ran out last week for both MEP and VPX. I did receive one warning about this when I opened VPX.

I just opened MEP2021 on both computers and neither has a message about a new version.

@browj2 Click on the little arrow to the right to get the alternatives available. Even then it's confusing as there's no Update option, just New Purchase!

Whew! Thank you Eric. I didn't even notice the dropdown. I did click on the "i" to see information about subscriptions.

Click on the other dropdowns and you'll see the New and Upgrade options. Movie Edit Pro has not had an Upgrade option for quite some time, as far as I can recall.

The way this is presented, it looks like there is only a subscription. I assume that this was the intention. Normally there would be boxes for New, Upgrade, Subscription. Now, you have to open the popdown. I can only assume that this was intentional to get more users to take the Subscription.

Take note that if you select Update, the "i" no longer mentions Update Service - dead and gone.

Greetings, I don't have any of that faff to do, pop-up every time I boot MEP tells me all - attached is a very poor clumsy video (on the phone) of my booting MEP showing it.

It is only subscription as show in second video I posted earlier.

Has anyone tried the new version yet?

I would like to know if it has inherited the same bugs as VPX.

I just opened MEP2021 again and received the update notice with one option to extend my Update Service.

I should note that this will likely be the last Update Service that one will get as it will not be renewed upon expiry, according to what we have seen.

As I have VPX11 to fall back on I'm downloading the new MEP version as I type. It's a pretty slow download though. I reckon it could take an hour to download just under 1GB. Normally I can download that amount in under 4 minutes. It took 30 seconds just for the download to start. No wonder people are having connection problems with some internet service providers.

Greetings Ray. It's Bank Holiday Monday here in the UK and it seems like the World and it's Uncle is on t'internet so I'll give it a go at the crack of dawn Tuesday when I usually make a strong cup of tea.

To all - I notice that there's a sticky now from Stefan at MAGIX_Redaktion. I've asked him what 3rd party effects I'll lose if I take the plunge. We'll see.

Hi Andy. It actually only took 33 mins in the end.

Not a good start though on loading an old project.

Had to change the settings to the following for it to work on my system.

It is the opposite of John EB's setup.

Still testing but so far it is ignoring my Intel GPU completely on exports but seems faster on exporting and much smoother playback of complex projects of up to 18 tracks of 4K 50fps clips (with proxy files) Disk read and write times also seem to have improved a lot for my internal SATA project hard drives.

Where has the VPX 13 topic in the sticky section gone where people reported the bugs? How are we supposed to keep track of what has been fixed and what hasn't?

Hi Ray,

I see that you've found the thread. I stopped keeping a bug list quite a while back, somewhat out of frustration at bugs not getting fixed, and too time-consuming.

Here is a link to the last one that covers some of VPX12.

Hi Ray,

The sad part is that many of them were repeats (check the dates) and I would get a reply back the they were putting it on the list but not to expect anything right away. I would reply back with the dates of tickets (often more than one) and ticket numbers showing that they were well aware of x bug more than once over a long period. I also found out that my bug list was famous (well-known) at Magix, and thus probably filed away somewhere to be ignored. Just ranting.

I remember that list, a couple on there were my particular niggles. I also sent them to Magix but no luck yet.

It's a shame that Magix seem to mainly rely on 3rd party apps to improve their product (ok I acknowledge Infusion Engine etc) and don't do anything to repair the belt and braces of the program.

@browj2 I cannot take credit. I wouldn't have noticed either but it had already been discussed in another thread, possibly on the Vegas forum.

Next question - the "new" Movie Studio 18 is based on MEP 2021. I wonder if this will this now change now that MEP is 2022?

I will try later today. I am having my own problems with the 2022 version such as program settings not being remembered and not being able to close down the program. It continuously thinks there is an open project in it. Also the manual is either more informative this time around or I'm finding more of interest in it. Either way it is not helping with my current problem.

The update to 2022 went smoothly.

The only thing I will say regarding installation is that standard installation installs Opera Browser. On the first install screen there is, written in blue, something about change installation. I can't remember the exact words as I assumed it meant default installation folders and so ignored it. Presumably this is where you can say not to install Opera. it's not really a problem as it's easy enough to uninstall anyway.

Inital thoughts after 30 minutes playing:

1. The rotation feature now works as it did many versions earlier i.e when you select an area of the video/photo and want to rotate if, the selected area can now bee seen as opposed to the area "straightening up" when rotation was clicked
2. Size/Position/Rotation is now under one button and I'm not sure I like it although I'm sure I'll get used to it. It's difficult to describe what I don't like about it - the new feature needs to be seen and used to know what I mean. The Size/Position/Rotation effect now have to be clicked to apply and, in my opinion, it's not as simple or quick to use as in 2021 and earlier.
3. It may be my imagination but editing generally seems smoother.
4. Export? What can I say? A very rough, admittedly not full HD lasting 25 mins was exported to HEVC in just uner 6 minutes; the CPU never got over 72 C and my Nvidia card remained rock steay at 48 C. in "the old days" MEP2021 would have taken roughly real time to export with the CPU sometimes getting into the high 80s.

EDIT just tried another more complex video (from VHS with section, colour correction, sharpen, Mercalli stabilise, sound cleaning) and this exported in roughly real time i.e 10 minute film in 10 minutes whearas before with 2021 this same project took 35 minutes. CPU maxed at 80 C and GPU at 51 C.

First impressions then, I like it and I think that Magix and I will continue to have a future together - at least until they upset me again.

It could be that I've fallen lucky, but just tried and old family video that MEP 2021 had difficulty with, it is a variable frame rate AVI from VHS with PCM audio dropped down many years ago.

MEP 2022 plays it without jumping and the audio remains in sync, well sort of. When I cleaned up the sound it went out slightly but create a new frame table seems to have sorted that. As I say maybe I was lucky with this one but I'd be onterested to hear if others have the same experience.
