Movie Edit Pro MX, how do I insert a text/thought bubble?

rockindoublej wrote on 10/16/2011, 2:54 AM

I cannot find any text bubbles to add to my video. I have looked in the effects; design elements and everything is empty except picture in picture. I have no effects. How do I get these so I can properly edit my video? Shouldn't these have come with my new software?

I assume that, like me, you have the downloaded version. Until you register and then activate the free downloads  there is only a single bubble option, in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MAGIX\Movie_Edit_Pro_MX_Premium_Download_Version\OverlayFX\Text

compared with these in MEP17:

But after the (extensive) download you should have all of them.

Please let me know if that helps. We're just users like you, and feedback is appreciated.

Thank you Terry.

I am running Windows 7 and I don't have the folders that you are referring to. I do have the download version and I have registered and downloaded the free downloads and still have only 6 options in Image Objects under text for thought bubbles. Is that all there is in 400+ megs of download for effects? Not much there.

Hi,

Well, I don't often spring to defend Magix, but half a dozen thought bubbles seems OK to me!

(Wouldn't mind a better range of Smilies on this forum though...)

During the years of MEP11 through MEP17 (and soon maybe MEP MX if I can find any good reason), I've used very few of the huge range of built-in effects. Frankly, many seem a bit glitzy/tacky to me. However I do tend to make a few of my own. Never had a need for a DIY bubble, but looking at it now I reckon the existing editing facilities would cover all my needs. Here's an example:

Did you make the bubble you show here? What did you use to make it or where did you get it? Do you simply import it as any other object or is there another way to bring it in to Magix?

No, as mentioned I didn't need to. I used the existing Classic bubble (one of the 6 I see you've now found) and edited its size, shape, angle, background colour and text colour. To do that I used various tools under Movement effects, Video Effects and Titles. If you aren't familiar with those yet, then Help and the PDF User Manual have lots of information.

But if you wanted some special bubble shape or design, then yes, you could make it in your image editor and import it.
