Yes, you should be able to update to 2021 for free, subject to the limitations of the Update Service. You will not get any third party software; that only happens when one pays. I expect that 2021 will overwrite 2020, but that the Video Content will be limited to only the difference. You will still have to go to Help, Install Extra Content, and then Download Additional content. It would be interesting to know if everything is checked and has to be downloaded or only some of the items.

Editing monitor now gives a sharper looking image even with reduced resolution and proxy files in use.

Importing an old project I got 'missing file xxx- whatever' That I have no idea what it was so imported the project without it and it turned out it didn't know where this file was.

But that was soon sorted.

Also did we have a sound bar in the track section before? I can't remember.

That bar is added after as a screen grab can't grab it in action for whatever reason.

And what is this? Why is it greyed out?

Export time on my system for a 1080p MP-4 despite using various fades speed changes and titles effects etc seems to be slightly better than real time at best settings.

This is a screen grab from one of my other posts but the track might need to be made wider, i don't remember there being a sound bar,

However much i reduce the height of the sound track on 2021 i can't make the sound bar go away so i think it wasn't there before,

I just don't remember seeing one in the past. It's an odd thing to suddenly notice. Ah. I see it's vertical.

I'm pretty sure I have seen the soundbar before (vertical), but could be in VPX. I will check later as I still have not upgraded.

Is that not to specify an application in which you want the rendered file to be played in?
And I suppose it is a field for "Custom" (in the dropdown above) and then select the *.exe file that is the program to play the file?

You are correct, it was a vertical sound bar, I've also noticed Text labelling in the side bar is now slightly easier to read.

Considering MEP has always played MP4 file exports regardless of whether the box is ticked or not and has never played an exported HEVC file it's an intriguing idea. I will look into it later.

Hi guys.

Assuming that you have updated to the new version, can any of you check for me whether the problem of importing analogue video via the DV Recording option on Import screen, which is present in the latest version of VPX, (audio imports but no video, acknowledged by Magix as a bug) is also affecting this new version of MEP? Because I do a lot of analogue to digital transfers and conversions (for paying clients) I cannot risk upgrading if this function is not working in MEP 2021.

So, I just now installed MEP 2021. (The Magix server was so slow last night, I waited until this morning where download speeds were normal again.) Some thoughts on the install:

• After the discussions here about a problem with "Updater," I had renamed my Service_rel_u_x64_vc12.ext to .old.
• But I had to rename it back to .exe for the Online update to work.
• Hidden (in a sense) during Install was the Optional Software "Updater." I deselected it.
• Nevertheless, there is still an online update executable which installs, as above.
• 2021 installed to my OS drive. Whereas I had old 2020 on my D drive. If there was an option to change the path, I missed it. (I will restore my C: and D: drive and try the install again.)
• 2021 does not remember my previous projects. (Perhaps because it didn't install over my old 2020 directory?)
• When I tried to activate, I had to first deactivate my previous installation of 2020. That wasn't very clear because both instances showed it as MEP2020. It was only the install date that showed me which one to deactivate. (Funny because the 2021 installed uninstalled 2020 anyway, making the Activation exercise moot.)

I haven't tried the program proper. (Garage door spring broke. Can't open the door manually. (Too heavy.))

It sounds like MEP will now work with later model Nvidia and AMD GPU's alone (although there is still something about UHD 630 in the text), but only helps for AVC and HVEC. Neither which I use.

What do you use then? AVC is H.264 BTW.

Although I suppose if HVEC encodes faster than H.264, then I'll switch.

It is hard to tell if they have enabled HEVC HWA export on the Nvidia card's NVENC encoder a la VPX, but I think maybe not, as they make no mention of this feature in the MEP sales patter, whereas they do for VPX.

The main improvement for MEP2021 is in playback of complex MPEG timelines. This is a significant improvement and the mention of the UHD630 means that the Infusion Engine 2 is doing it's new playback processing almost entirely in the Intel GPU or the AMD or NVIDIA GPU ie in whichever of these 3 mentioned models, or higher, is available. (They missed out a couple of commas)

Hi,

Back to my question about additional content. Did you have to download and install everything that was on the list, or were some things unchecked and if so, what?

The additional content should be under C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent... and the previous folder should be the one that gets updated, unlike older versions where additional content was added to a new ProgramData folder. This left us with the same content multiple times.

I'm also interested in the answer to Jeff's question about importing DV (and VHS). I just did some DV (but couldn't find my firewire cable - I have many cables and wires, but that particular had to go missing) and I am now converting a bunch of VHS cassettes.

Now i see it vertically i sort of do remember it, Some way of showing stereo would be good for me, my crap Huawei phone now just records on the left channel, but occasionally just the right 😖 my Go-Pro which i use sometimes in conjunction with my phone cam only records on the right with an external mic, when editing my days work i have to go into Audio cleaning & set the audio of the clips to both channels right or left, My PC is hooked up to a Cambridge amp with speakers under the desk so sometimes i forget to adjust this stereo, seeing the stereo in the timeline track would be good, left & right channels separately in the wave, I can open the mixer & it shows there but I'd like to be able to see it at a glance.

I did have a couple of Audio effects - both channels right or left, saved that i could just drag on to the clips but just looked n of course they're now gone with 2021 update 🙃

Just checked my 19.0.2.58 MEP Premium and the vertical soundlevels are there, so it is not new in 2021.

Can you now check that no other content folder was created, that is, everything went to the same content folder as 2020, a subfolder for MEP under:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent

I think that you have it backwards. Before (2020 and before), the soundlevel bar was vertical, now it's horizontal.
