Movie Edit Pro 2013 Problem during "creating DVD image"

ronjlynch1 wrote on 12/8/2012, 6:55 PM

I have a newly purchased Movie Edit Pro 2013 and a recent Dell laptop with Windows 7. Four times it has aborted during the "creating DVD image" phase of the Burn cycle. I completely remade the project to make sure it was not a corrupt file. The VOB files will run in Media Player. The error is: Error in module "" to address 0x0d3102218 Exception 0xc000001d " Illegas_Instruction" I have burned a simple DVD with only a few photos on it. It works OK. The problem is with a 75 minute movie with photos and videos from my phone and camera."

Hi,

You did not mention any of your computer specs such as RAM, CPU, etc.  Also are you editing HD or SD content.  The fact that you can burn a short DVD and not a long one suggests to me that there may be some system issues.

The computer is a year old Dell with i5 and 6 gig of ram with 640 gig hard drive with lots of room left.  DVD burner only.  It is Windows 7.  It should be capable.

I have run the movie edit pro check for updates and it is the latest.

The original movie is photos and videos from two cameras and my phone.  Mostly HD content.

The VOB's record and play on Windows Media Player, so I don't think there is a format problem.

I cut the original movie in half and it crashed also, so I don't think it is size.

I have done a videos only version on DVD and it ran OK on my DVD player.

The photo only version ran OK.

I stripped titles and background music from the original and it crashed.

I am thinking I am asking MEP to do something it doesn't know how to do.  Maybe a stray electron wiped out that brain cell.

II am about to run a movie with one photo and one video to see if it is the interface between the two.  After that I am going to reinstall everything and start over.

Thanks,

Ron

Below is from the log file that records following a crash.  Don't know what it is telling me.

Hi,

It would have been nice if you had mentioned this with your original post.  The intel i5 is dual core which is fine as is the 6GB of ram, even for HD, what bit rates are you using to burn the DVD and are you trying to burn it using the MEP burner or an external burner.  Also what codecs is your source material using?  Not all windows Media Player  codecs are available for non Microsoft products.  You also mentioned that some of the content was from your phone, was it a iPhone, Android, etc?  And what container format is the video using .mov, .wmv ...?

What happened when you tried to burn 1 photo and 1 video?

ronjlynch1 wrote on 12/9/2012, 8:10 PM

I think I may have found something.  Don't know why it is a problem, but it made a difference.  I decided to reinstall MEP first.  I ran a movie before I did the updates.  It crashed same as before at "creat DVD image."  I ran the updates.  Same crash after.  It is not the install or the update.

Every time I start an attempt, I save the movie to a new name.  I am up to version 14 at this point. This is the interesting part, I went to an earlier version that had encoded all the files and crashed during the creat DVD image.  It had three VOB files and ask if I wanted to use the old files and I answered yes to all.  This time it runs and burns a disk.  I am excited now.  I play the disk on by DVD player.  It plays half way through and ends.  End of movie, back to the menu. Turns out, only the first two of the three VOB files are on the finished disk.  I did it again, same result.  I went back to the movie in MEP and found the time where it stopped.  It was in the middle of a video segment.  In the middle of the video segment, the movie quits.  Not the first segment and not the last, just in the middle of a segment in the middle of the movie. So I delete that video segment, and burn again with a complete re-encoding.  This time it burns successfully and plays all the way through.

A bad video segment maybe?  This segment recorded all the way through in the" video only" disk I burned in version 5.  It encoded all the way through in a few other versions of the movie.  I don't know if it always spanned two VOB's. Tomorrow I will try to just burn it by itself, just so I know for sure.  If that works, I will try to set one up so it is cut by a VOB transition.  It was a video from my phone.  There are several others from my phone in the movie before the problem point and they all worked.

The VTS_01_2.VOB where the movie ended was a full length VOB 1.048 gb just like the one before it.  So it was not an early abort.  Maybe the transition between two VOB files?  The final version that did burn successfully had three VOB files. The first two were full size and the third was partial.  I don't know how these things work.  I am at the limit of my skill level here.

I had built the movie/project twice from the original source files and had the problem with both builds.  I don't think it was an original corruption that got carried along from version to version.  I plan to make other projects/movies so if they work OK, I will just let it go.  If they crash, I will be back online.

To answer your questions, it is a Samsung Vibrant S Android phone.  Does an mp4 video.  MEP ask me to download the codec when I dropped the first one in the movie, and I did, and it worked OK after that.

I was using the MEP burner.

There is something that didn't work correctly.  I think it is an MEP thing, but don't know.  Hope it was a one time thing.

Regards,

Ron

Hi Ron,

I am not sure why I did not think of this before.  I have read on this forum that some who were having problems burning a dvd had success by using a 3rd party image burner.  One that is highly reccomended by one of our contriutors, Terry, is called ImgBurn.  I have used it before when I created my dvd image on my hard drive and just wanted to burn it and it works pretty well.

May be worth a try to keep your project moving foreward.
