I have just had the hard disc on my computer re-formatted, and I have re-installed MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2005 Ver 4.0.2.6.

I have a problem when I have connected my Analog Camcorder and press record button in the Movie Edit Pro 2005 the dialog box shows Record Decision then press Video Analog a warning sign shows “Could not connect to selective device”.

Can you please tell me what the problem is, I have used this program for a number of years, and until I had my computer reformatted I had no problem

System Windows XP Professional

Service Pack 3

Free Space 171GB

Thank you pippin

Hi.

First, and perhaps most obvious thing to say is, MEP 2005 is now rather old!

However, if you have not changed anything apart from having the Operating System reinstalled (after the re-format) then, theoretically, it ought to work.  However, a re-format does NOT guarantee that EVERYTHING is back to "how it was"; you may well have made changes to your computer/hard disc/peripherals etc. between the time you originally had the computer and the time immediately before the re-format, any one or more of which may well have meant that MEP would "work properly" before but, since these changes have been reversed by the re-format, MEP no longer works as you want.

So, you connect your Analogue Camcorder - I confess to not having seen one of those for quite some time - to your PC, how?  What type of connection?  Presumably a thre-core Composite cable?  What is the connection socket at the camera and what at the PC?  Have you ensured that the correct plug is connected to the correct socket at each end of the cable (assuming the connections are something like phono plugs and sockets)?  Clearly, there may be a problem with the cable, or the socket(s) on the camera or the PC.  The error message you see seems to indicate that Windows cannot "see" your camcorder.

I think we need a little more info please on EXACTLY how you are connecting your camcorder to your PC.

Jeff

Hello Jeff, thank you for your reply to my query,
I connect the Camcorder to the Computer with a lead that came with the Camcorder a yellow and white connection I think they call them phono connections; the yellow is for video and the white for audio.
In the front of my computer a Targa Visionary 3000+ are various sockets that include an AV (composite in) socket, for the yellow and an audio in for the white.
I have connected the camcorder to the computer for a few years using these connections.
When I connect the Camcorder to the computer and start Movie Edit Pro, a warning sign shows “Could not connect to selective device”.but you can hear the sound through the computer,
I have tried with different leads and checked all connections.

The reason I am using a analog Camcorder is only for the play back and copy of  8mm tapes, on to the computer to put onto discs, the tapes contain footage that I took of family nineteen years ago

The same lead you can connect the camcorder to the TV for play back, and there is no problem.
Thank You pippin
