Movie Edit Pro 16 stops capturing video before set time limit

cato wrote on 9/14/2012, 12:37 PM

I've been using Movie Edit Pro 16 for several years without any problems. I use Windows 7.  Now when I try and capture a TV program, something I've done hundreds of times, the program stops before the set time limit. For example, I always set the Reord time but for the past week the program stops before completion. One time I set it to record for 90 minutes and it recorded for only 58 minutes and stopped and today it ran for only 10 minutes when I had set it to record for an 60 minutes. I have plenty of room on my hard drive and 2 other video programs, Nero and Windows Media Recorder work fine, but I like the extra features of Movie Edit Pro 16 so that's my preferred method of capturing.

I was thinking maybe I shoud re-install the program. Any other thoughts. Thanks.

Hi,

A couple of thoughts, check your available disc space, and see what other apps are running when this happens.  If you have a memory hog av app such as norton/symantec or mcafee and they are either running a update or system scan that could also be a problem.  Just a thought.

George,

I always close all programs and set Norton Antivirus to Silent Mode so it doesn't start working in the background. As I said, I've been capturing programs for years with no problems until last week.

To answer your specific question, I have 29.6GB of free space on my second drive where I store the video.

Hi Cato,

Sorry, for the questions, but you have no idea how may questions get posted where people do not know what is going on with their system.  You clearly do, so my suggestion to you is that you may well have a problem out of the ordinary that I have neither the time nor the inclination to dive in to at this point.  My suggestion to you is that you repost an new question and include the additional information so that you don't get the same or similar response from some one else.  That way your new post will show zero answers and others who may have had similar problems will see the question as unanswered.  I would not have even replied to this question if you had provided the additional detail in the original post.

Thanks George. I think I'll wait a day or two to see if I get more responses. If not, I think I'll try re-installing the program since I have two other capture softwares that work fine. That makes me think it's specific to MEP.

Hi

There should be no need to re-install.  Try a reset of the software - see File, Settings, Reset to default.

If that fails use Windows Exploere to search for videodeluxe.ini - search hidden and system folders - you will find several - delete the one that has the largest file size.

Restart MEP.

HTH

John

First I tried resetting the settings to default but that didn't work. Then I looked for the videodeluxe.ini file but didn't find any. There were many .ini files associated with MEP like dvdmaker.ini, MovieEdit.ini, epg-upgrade.ini, uninstall.ini,, UnlockDialog.ini, unwise.ini, and Speed.ini and many others. When I was in Control Panel I noticed there was an earlier version of MEP (14) on my computer so I uninstalled that and rebooted but that didn't work either.

When I run Nero nothing stops it. I can surf the internet, send emails, download files and watch videos while recording but nothing stops it. I wish MEP was as robust.

The only thing I can think of is to reinstall MEP 16.

Thanks for your help.

Hi

Apologies - I thought version 16 was the first to use the videodeluxe.ini.

The file you need to delete is the largest movieedit.ini

John,

There's only one movieedit.ini file and it has today's date. Should I delete that?

cato wrote on 9/20/2012, 9:20 AM

I uninstalled and reinstalled MEP 16 and I updated the program and then I set it to record a TV program for 90 minutes but it only recorded for 2 minutes and then stopped recording.

I don't understand why this program worked for more than 2 years and now has problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't there a log file that would explain what happened?
