Movie Edit Pro 15 on Windows 8 DVD Burner Unavailable

Jeffesmi wrote on 11/17/2012, 7:32 PM

Hello,

I just setup a new Windows 8 computer.  On this system, I loaded Movie Edit Pro 15. I was impressed that it is so stable on Windows 8.  I spent over 5 hours on a project without a hiccup.  Now that I finished the project, I went to burn it and my "Burner" area is empty.  Sometimes when I go in, I get:

DVDMaker.dll has detected a version conflict. Please contact MAGIX
Support. The program version requires the DLLAV32.DDLL version
6.1.124 or higher.
To fix this problem please load the following routine update from the
downlaod area of the support page <http://support.magix.net>

I loaded the "Magix Burn Routines 2010," but this did not resolve the problem. I confirmed that the DLLAV32.DLL version on my computer is 9.0.0.0 according to the file properties.  How can I resolve this and burn movies?

As a second part to this problem, I tried to export my project as an MPG2 movie.  Everything looked fine, and MAGIX can open the MPG, but every other program I try plays audio but NO VIDEO.  Given, I don't have much loaded right now, but Media Player, the XBOX player (built into Winodws 8), I exported it to an AVI and that worked fine. Any Ideas?

Don't forget, this is Windows 8, and that I HAVE already tried the BURN Routine updates.

Thanks in advanced.

Jeff

Hi

According to Microsoft,  MEP 15 is compatable with Windows 8  see here

The problem may be that your DVD writer is so new that the latest Burn Routines do not have any parameters for it.

Try installing the trial version of MEP 2013 and see if your DVD writer is recognised and can be written to.

If it can't then I think there may be a problem with the writer - it may need a firmware or driver update if these are available.

Re the mpg problem - what settings did you use for the export?

I could only find "MAGIX Video Pro X4".  I assume this is either the version you mentioned or the latest version available.  I'll let you know what I find once I install it.

Thanks,

Jeff

I now realize that the Magix Video Pro X4 is the "professional version" of the software.  $399?!?!  Not gona happen for my little home videos. :(  I loaded it and it did recognize the burner as "PBDS CDRWDVD DH48C25".  I couldn't test burn it as the trial limits you to 3 min. of burning. Ack...  I still don't see a trial for the Movie Edit 2013 anywhere.  My other DVD programs including IMGBURN and Microsoft's Native DVD writing seem to work fine.  Do I remember there being mentiona of a beta version of the "Magix Burn routines?"  I doubt this DVD drive is too new.  I ripped it out of a machine that was almost a year old and it's nothing special, just the stock burner that came with a Dell Optiplex. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

Doh, on the mpg problem, I tried  a couple of the stock settings for 720x480.  I then exported it as a 720x480 AVI and it works fine.  I'm thinking whatever codec that Magix is using is not supported by the programs in Windows 8.  To test this, I downloaded VLC media player and could play the movies fine. I thought one of the things you were paying for with a comercial product like this was a well supported MPG codec that could be played by most stock devices and programs. Do you think this will be rectified over time, or do I just need to get the newest version?  I may consider upgrading to 2013 since they have it on sale right now and see if it fixes my problems. I'd love to have the premium version, but $129 is also a bit steep for editing home movies, but I love having lots of transitions and I assume that the premium version has more.

Thanks,

Jeff

Sorry, I don't have an answer but I have the exact same problem with MEP 17 plus after installing Windows 8 pro (64 bit). Other video editing programs, Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate for examjple, work perfectly. I believe the problem is with Magix. Their technical support is worthless (unless you are willing to pay $30.

I just spoke to Magix customer service about this issue and they sent me the following link:

http://download.magix.net/support2/point_update_2012.exe

for a Windows 8 update. It worked for my MEP Pro 17 Plus. I hope it works for your MEP 15.

I have no Idea why they don't have this link posted on their web site!

Best,
