Hello, I've got an error when trying to run the MOV file type into the software. I already have quick time installed. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
If your footage comes either from game screen recordings or a mobile phone you should check the file is not using a variable frame rate using the free to download program MediaInfo and checking the text view of the program. If the file is variable frame then it first needs to be converted to a constant frame rate before most video editing packages can handle it. I say most editing packages because obviously I haven't used or seen all of the editing packages out there, but the ones I know of don't handle variable frame rate footage at all well.
If that is not the problem then we will need to know the complete specifications of your computer including processor type and age (complete processor number please) as well as other components and Windows version and build information.
Quicktime for Windows is obsolete and no longer supports some variants of MOV files.
As @CubeAce has commented analyse the MOV with MediaInfo, however there may be more an additional codec issue in addition to the the Variable Frame Rateate suggested by Ray - post the results from the Text view - you can copy and paste them into your reply

Ray and John. Thanks so much. I'm quite new to video editing. The MOV file is an export from a .360 file from my Go Pro Max using the GoPro Max Exporter. I exported it in Cineform, 5.6K 29.97 fps. However, when I downloaded and used the MediaInfo software I found the exported file has a variable rate that varies between 29.97 and 30 fps. Below is the tet result of the analysis using MediaInfo. Is it possible to convert the file to a fixed frame rate? With best wishes, Carlos

The variable frame rate in this instance is very low and while it won't help I doubt it is the main problem in this instance but will contribute to the problem. The problem is the Cineform format Go-Pro has used for its rather high 813Mb/s bit rate, and Go-Pro has discontinued its Go-Pro Studio file convertor for use with other editors.
Also if you are recording at 5.1K make sure your system exceeds all of the minimum specifications needed for editing 4K footage in Movie Edit Pro or it will struggle to do so smoothly. Such files need powerful processing to work well in an editor.
You maybe able to convert the files using the free program called Handbrake found here.
I don't use or have had need to use Handbrake, but John Baker may be able to give you some guidance on settings when he gets back on line.
The files in my opinion definitely need converting.
I agree with Ray that the video needs converting to Constant Frame Rate. The video codec may also needs changing depending on the specification of your computer - see this topic and post details of your system specs, please quote the processor, and any graphics card, name/model in full.
Personally I now use Handbrake for video conversion.
Which video conversion settings to use depends on what the end product is going to be eg for Youtube, for Blu-Ray or DVD disc or playback as a MP4 file on computer or TV.
In the case of MP4 file what resolution do you want the export to be?
Thank you so much for your input. I'm absolutely a newbie and your insight has indeed saved me time. I was able to use Handbrake. I opened the MOV file and saved it as an M4V file with the preset Vimeo/YT Hq 2160p60 4K and the resulting video is super high quality. Wow. For a clip of 100 seconds, it took about 18 minutes to save in the new format. Now I can use Movie Edit PRO premium.
I have two follow up questions:
A. I seem to understand that GoPro Studio has been discontinued. My current workflow to use MAGIX Movie Pro after reading your comments is as follows: 1. Use the GoPro Studio to convert native files wth. 360 extension from GoPRo Max camera to MOV file. 2. Use Handbrake on the .MOV file to remove the variable frame rate and export it as MP4 or M4V (this last is my preferred format now), and 3. Use the MAGIX Movie Pro for editing.
Is there a way to export files with the .360 extension directly to M4V or MP4 without using GoPro Studio intermediate step. Is using Handbrake on .360 files OK? I tried it and the resulting M4V file was not the 2:1 rectangular format with stitches.
B. If I want to create a project using the Movie Edit Pro software, what would be the best format for export?
Regarding my computer and windows specs, they are below:
Device name jkjkj Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz 1.50 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.6 GB usable) Device ID Removed by moderator Product ID Removed by Moderator System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch Pen and touch support with 10 touch points
Edition Windows 10 Home Version 20H2 Installed on 2021-03-25 OS build 19042.867 Serial number Removed by moderator Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2412.551.0
I seem to understand that GoPro Studio has been discontinued.
That is my understanding as well.
Your workflow pattern seems sound and if it were me I would be doing the same.

Not that I'm aware of. That is one reason I always have backup copies of any programs I use. Terms and conditions of software use always favour the manufacturer.
I personally have no idea about Handbrake. Although I know it is recommended here as a solid bit of software I am not a user.
B. If I want to create a project using the Movie Edit Pro software, what would be the best format for export?
Format for export is often dictated by the files reason for being created and final destination. So for YouTube say, I would choose MP4 but I have no experience with 360 video content.
For archive use I would keep the original footage in case a better decoder or better quality editor ever came into existence or my skill at editing increased over time and I wanted to re-edit a project.
Regarding your system spec.
Copy and paste that into your signature. That will always save a host of repeated questions from members when you have a new question topic for us.
One last thing. Sometimes exports and trans-coding can take time depending on the complexity of the task.
With apologies, but I have edited your most recent post to remove confidential data, access to which could seriously compromise the security of your system. Please do not post such data to a public forum like this one.
