Monorecording with Roland Rubix 22 and Soundforge Audio Cleaning Lab 4

ReneV wrote on 11/8/2023, 2:59 AM

If I want to record a track with my Roland Rubix 22 Audiointerface and Soundforge Audio Cleaning Lab 4, I get a Mono result. I've checked all settings. They're all set to Stereo. Also tried with a Behringer UCA-202 interface but the result is the same. I'm using Windows 11.

@ReneV

HI

What are you plugging in to the Roland interface to record from?

From your comment it sounds like it is a mono device as both interfaces give the same result?

Hi John,

I'm recording from a Korg Kronos workstation. I've also tried to record from an iPhone to record a song. Same result.

Kind regards,

Rene

@ReneV Are your devices connected via a stereo cable? If you connect them to your audio interfaces, make sure to connect them to both inputs at the front of the audio interface.

ReneV wrote on 11/8/2023, 5:46 AM

It is a stereo cable and I'm using left and right input channels.

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @ReneV. You should have posted this query in the Audio Cleaning Lab forum. It was however moved over for you already.

I am not sure about ACL (Audio Cleaning Lab), but assuming it is similar the Sound Forge (Pro or Audio Studio), select 'File> New' and set the channels to 2-channel - Stereo. You may also try using the Classic Wave driver (Options> Preferences> Audio) which has the option to assign which channel(s) as the input source.

Thank you for your comment, but when I click on "R" (record) it says Stereo-recording. Very strange but it records only mono.

@ReneV

Hi,

There is something that I don't understand. You say that you are recording from a Korg Kronos workstation which is a keyboard, is it not? Does it actually have a stereo line out? How does that work? Does the left part of the keyboard send audio to the left channel, and the right part to the right channel or something? I see that the specs show "(MAIN) L/MONO, R:" What sound comes out of the R - right channel?

I would assume that a keyboard only has a mono line out and that is why you are not getting stereo.

Hi John,

I would assume that a keyboard only has a mono line out and that is why you are not getting stereo.

The vast majority of keyboards have "stereo" outputs, often in the configuration you list (L/R or MONO L only); the degree to which this is genuine stereo (e.g., as in your suggestion re the keyboard being split) or merely some spatial effect being added is extremely variable! Some keyboards do offer the facility to separate multi-layered sounds (i.e., sounds created from more than one "voice" or "instrument") and send them to L or R or both but this tends to be limited to the more feature-rich (= expensive) models.

e.g., I have a Nord Stage 3 and any "sound" can actually contain up to 6 separate voices, each of which can be individually routed to any combination of the available outputs.

Hi,

That's correct John, Left Channel can be used as a mono channel, but using two cables (L + R) produceses stereo. Normally my Korg's output goes to the Inputchannels of my mixer and is defenitely STEREO. I've download the testversion of Magix' Audio 17 and there the result is exellent stereo! So it's a problem which occurs with the Soudforge Audiolab 4

ReneV wrote on 11/9/2023, 3:12 AM

Somehow the Roland Rubix 22 and Soundforge Audiolab 4 is working now stereo. Problem with the Behringer uca 202 device is also defined: The Asio4all-driver does not support Windows 11, so Soundforge chooses the Microphone USB Audio Codec Input, which causes a Mono-effect. Thanks for all your comments on this issue.

emmrecs wrote on 11/9/2023, 3:54 AM

@ReneV

Which version of ASIO4All are you running?

I do not have Win 11 so cannot verify this but this page says the latest, 2.15, does support that OS.

That's correct, but in Soundforge Audio Cleaning Lab 4 my Behringer Uca 202 will not be recognized and is not to be seen in the Device Management in Windows 11. Version 2.15.

@ReneV

Hi

In ACL4 and Device Manager, do you see an input option of "USB Codec", if so this may be the Behringer UCA 202.

Hi Rene and Jeff,

Thanks for the information about keyboard stereo outputs. I learned something new. My keyboard doesn't have that feature.

Rene, glad you got it sorted out, however, I am wondering why you are using SFACL for recording from a keyboard rather than using a DAW like Samplitude or a mini DAW like Music Maker (free). I view SFACL as a recording device for other things like recording voice and importing audio from cassettes, vinyl, computer, but not for musical instruments, as SFACL is an audio editor for cleaning and mastering, not mixing. The same applies to Soundforge Pro. Of course, it can be done but I think that a DAW would be better. You might want to try Music Maker. At least with that, you can use some Magix VST instruments with the free version.

In SFACL, of the Import options, which one are you using? Digital?

About the Behringer, does it come with an ASIO driver? I have an M-Audio M-Track and it comes with an ASIO driver. I don't have Windows 11, so I don't know if it would actually work with that.

That's right John, but the driver which is chosen when I plug in the Behringer is: microphone(USB Codec) and when I plug the Behringer out that driver will dissapear too.

What I did is erase the driver, and plug the Behringer back in again; it automaticlly installs the same driver (Window 11). In Soundforge it causes the mono sound with a lot of backgroundnoise. It doesn't recognize the Asio 2.15 driver.

Nevertheless, I'm happy because the Roland Cubix is working fine now!

ReneV wrote on 11/9/2023, 9:37 AM

I wanted to edit a view songs in Soundforge (recording from an iPhone 12) when I discovered the mono sound, so the easiest way for me was to try it with the Korg. Mostly I use Studio One (Presonus) for recording and editing.

@ReneV

According to this Behringer product page, the driver software supplied with your interface is ASIO4All version 2.15!
