Hi,

The new .mxcOGG is a proprietary format that can only be read by more recent versions of MusicMaker. You need to update MMM2017 to the latest. If you can't update under Help, Online update (or something like that), then I suggest that you take it up with Steam.

My mantra is "Why do people insist on buying these programs through Steam when they are perfectly available, with support, from Magix?"

Well, you don't know much about Steam do you? I get the latest updates automatically and I bought it on sale. Simple as that. And besides, I like to have my software and games in one place, its nice and clean.

@Evilworm

You're right, I don't know much about Steam, other than users on Steam have had problems and then ask here on the forum where most experienced users do not use Steam and have trouble helping. So, I did a bit of research:

"Steam is a digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation, which offers digital rights management, multiplayer gaming, video streaming and social networking services. Steam provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games, and community features such as friends lists and groups, cloud saving, and in-game voice and chat functionality. The software provides a freely available application programming interface called Steamworks, which developers can use to integrate many of Steam's functions into their products, including networking, matchmaking, in-game achievements, micro-transactions, and support for user-created content through Steam Workshop."

From CNET: "Steam is an online Windows, Mac, and Linux game store run by Valve Software, the makers of the Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Dota 2, and Left 4 Dead games. This store exclusively uses a free app also called Steam to download, install, and manage your games. With the decline of physical PC game sales, Steam has become the biggest online PC game store in the world."

From Valve: "Steam provides over 2,000 games available to purchase, download, and play from any computer. Check out the new releases, indie hits, casual favorites and everything in between. Find someone to play with, meet up with friends, connect with groups of similar interests, and host and join chats, matches, and tournaments. See when your friends are online or playing games and easily join the same games together. Chat with your buddies, or use your microphone to communicate in any game. On Steam, your games stay up-to-date by themselves with automatic game updates."

I can understand for games and the fun of connecting with others, but MusicMaker is not a game. Can you share the screen and the same project with someone else with both working on the project at the same time? That would be interesting.

This doesn't solve your problem. As I mentioned, you need to be updated to MMM2017 and one of the most recent patches for mxcOGG files to work. What is the patch version number? See under Help, About. Did Steam not update you automatically? I have 24.1.6.127; this is not the newest version, but is the latest patch for 2017. The new version is 2018 and the latest patch is: 25.1.0.59. Normally, when you open the program, if there is an update available, message will pop up to perform the update, or you can access this under the Help menu.

Since I have MMM 2017 on Steam, I already have the latest update. No need to manually update anything in Steam, its automatic. You can broadcast your screen to others, but they can only watch. Steam also have communications built in. And btw, number of games on Steam is way more than 2000. Lots of interesting programs there too, like Substance Designer and Substance Painter wich I use for developing textures for my games.

browj2 wrote on 10/7/2017, 11:36 AM

But, what is the update version? The first version of MMM 2017 and probably a couple of patches did not have the capability of reading mxcOGG files.

Hi

. . . . MMM 2017 on Steam, I already have the latest update. . . . .

Not necessarily, you are dependant on Steam applying the latest update and then updating your PC.

As John CB has said, what is the current version number as found under Help About . . . ?

. . . . number of games on Steam is way more than 2000. Lots of interesting programs there too, like Substance Designer and Substance Painter wich I use for developing textures for my games
. . . .

This is not relevant to the issue you are having which is about Music Maker.

I have the latest version of MMM 2017 on Steam, as I have already told you. 24.1.5.115 it says here, and its the newest version available on Steam. There is no newer updates on Steam, and I can't manually update it. Its not a Steam problem, so I can't complain to Steam. Magix have to update this version, not Steam.
And the reason I told about the other programs, John EB, is because its way easier to have all programs/games updated and everything on the same profile. No need to have 1000 different passwords when I have 1 on Steam, and the security is good enough. I also have lots of other programs from Magix on my Steam account. They chose to be available on this platform, and they tell people to go to the official Magix forums if something is wrong.

Hi.

I have the latest version of MMM 2017 on Steam, as I have already told you. 24.1.5.115 it says here, and its the newest version available on Steam

Then, with all due respect, you need to ask Steam very firmly why they are not making available to you the very latest version, 24.1.6.127, which was released some weeks ago!

With reference to your comments about multiple passwords etc. not being needed as a Steam customer, I have to say I would be personally rather concerned to feel I have only one source for the various softwares I depend upon. What happens to your system in the event of Steam's demise, extremely unlikely to happen as that may be?

I think that the change to the mxcOGG format happened with patch 24.1.5.119, but I'm not sure. Here is the patch list. 24.1.5.115 is not on the list, so there must be special ones for Steam.

Changes in patch 24.1.6.127 compared to 24.1.5.119

• Various modifications and optimizations in the in-app Music Maker Store

• Additional bug fixes throughout entire program

Changes in patch 24.1.5.119 compared to 24.1.5.112

• Fewer copy protection errors with closed Media Pool

• Revolta 2: Export error fix and minor design adjustments

Changes in patch 24.1.5.112 compared to 24.1.5.110

• Program start & Store initialization fixed

• Fixed crash that occurred when undoing effects

• EssentialFX updated

Because, as I said, Magix needs to update it. Steam is just the platform. Its like asking Microsoft to update Music Maker because it is on the Microsoft Store. Steam (Valve) doesn't own any part of the source code or the program itself, they just sell it.

We will all have the chance to download the latest version of every game and program we own the licence for. As a customer, we are protected by the EULA/Terms and laws.
