MIDI Issues in MX

Hi all,

I never got my first question answered regarding the older synths but I figured I'd try my luck at getting another question answered about my MIDI.

I am using Magix MX and I'm using a MicroKorg XL as my MIDI controller.  When I first hooked up the controller, I had some really bad latency issues so under my Audio Playback settings I switched from my regular wave driver to the ASIO.  Under the MIDI section I selected the Microkorg for the output device and input device.  You can see that below:

Everything appears to work fine as I'm playing but when I started recording that's when I start running into problems.  Sometimes, the MIDI records fine and I'm able to play it back with no worries.  But then more than 75% of the time I will see the MIDI data in the object but there will be no sound whatsoever.  I'll try dragging and dropping into other tracks and switching the VSTi to see if that makes any difference and nothing happens.  Still silence.  Sometimes I won't even see any MIDI data at all.  I've even tried exporting the MIDI data and reimporting it back into a new arrangement and all that happens is Magix crashes.  I've been fighting with this for days and I can't seem to figure out in rhyme or reason to it.

So, I'm here asking for some guidance.  I will admit that I'm realitively new to MIDI so I realize that I might be missing something blaringly obvious but I'm at my wit's end.  I'm not sure what other information you'll need to help me out but just ask and I'll try to provide it.

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I am new too to MMM. I am using 2014 Premium. So far as I know, you need to have an instrument identified or the MIDI track will be silent upon playback. I don't see any instrument associated with you MIDI track. Try adding one.

Thanks John but I believe there are instruments already identified.  In the instance of the screen shot above, track one is a drum machine called Rhythmus and it plays perfectly fine.  It's the second track,  phybes13 that is silent for some reason.  As I was recording, I could hear everything fine and there were no latency issues.  You can even see the MIDI data is there.  But in playback, only track one plays and track two makes no sound whatsoever.  I've tried highlighting the track, soloing it, changing instruments and still no sound.  Any more thoughts on what it could be?

Best,

J

Hi,

Is it just Phybes13 that does this?

Just to check:

  1. Before opening MMM, make sure that your keyboard is on and primed for midi, local off.
  2. When you open MMM, make sure that your setting is as you showed it, with the keyboard selected. If not, then do so. I found that it is usually better to close and reopen MMM with all of the parameters set. Maybe it's just me.
  3. Try other instruments. I presume that you have Vita instruments. Try an acoustic piano. Can you record midi to the track?
  4. In your image, I don't see an image of an instrument, which is why I suggested selecting an instrument. See the image below. I don't have Phybes so I can't try it.
  5. I did up a quick tutorial to answer another query, see the link. If you follow this, can you record and hear the midi ok? https://www.dropbox.com/s/au7fyil0i8nno59/Tutorial%2002%20MMM2014%20Insturments.WMV
  6. I did one test with one of the instruments and I made sure that the track was armed by playing the on-screen keyboard. If I didn't and I closed the instrument tool screen, nothing played. This only happened once and I could not repeat it.

I find it strange that your midi file could not be played by any other instrument. Maybe if you make it available, someone else can try it with a different version of MMM.

Good luck,
