MIDI Input blank -- My PX-160 keyboard not showing up as an option

John-Stonecypher wrote on 8/11/2018, 12:26 PM

I'm a total newbie with Music Maker (I got it as a birthday present for my son who's getting interested in MIDI), and I've read lots of articles and watched lots of videos, but I can't figure this out...

I downloaded and installed MusicMaker 27.0.0.16. I put my Casio PX-160 into MIDI mode. I opened MusicMaker and went into Setting to select the PX-160 as the MIDI Input, but it is not showing up in the dropdown as one of the options. That field is completely blank. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yysqhncuh6u80x6/MagixMusicMaker-Settings.PNG

I read a post online that indicated the free trial doesn't do MIDI, so I paid for MusicMaker Plus and entered the Activation code into my application. I restarted MusicMaker but I still have the same problem. https://www.dropbox.com/s/l0lx3se05jh4fr1/MusicMakerVersion.PNG

One weird thing I'm noticing... My PX-160 shows up in 2 places in my Device Manager -- Under Disk Drives as "CASIO EMP Flash USB Device" and under Portable Devices as "PIANO" https://www.dropbox.com/s/9qr2afrhe9rb9j6/CasioKeyboardOnPC.PNG

I am running Windows 7 Professional, SP1. My processor is an AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core 3.80 GHz. 8GB RAM. https://www.dropbox.com/s/739ttv20dal23uu/SystemInfo.PNG

In my Device Manager under "Sound, video, and game controllers," I have "NVIDIA High Definition Audio," "NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device," and RealTek High Definition Audio."

Can anyone please help me?

@John-Stonecypher

Hi

Did you download and install the extras from the Store that come with the version you purchased? See here for what you get with the version you bought, and here for more information on unlocking the feature, instruments etc.

If you still do not see the Casio as a MIDI device, it may be that Windows has installed a 64 bit driver for the keyboard - you also need to have the 32 bit driver installed for Music Maker to recognise the keyboard.

Note: - you can post images directly into your comments using the Media upload button, blue circle with up pointing arrow 3rd from right, just above this text box where you enter your comment.

Thanks @johnebaker! I've downloaded and installed all the extras as far as I can tell. They make that really complicated!

I'm trying to driver solution, but I can't seem to find any drivers online for the PX-160. I will keep looking. I don't suppose you would have an idea of where to look?

Thanks again!

@johnebaker, any ideas on where I might find a 32-bit driver? My searches aren't turning up anything...

Hi

. . . . any ideas on where I might find a 32-bit driver? My searches aren't turning up anything . . . .

Unfortunately not. I can find posts on similar issues with other models of Casio keyboards and they say the same - 'install 32 bit drivers' - however they do not say where to get them from, the only 32 bit drivers I can find are for the PX-200 and designed for Windows Vista so they would almost certainly not work with Windows 10.

I would suggest you try emailing Casio support and asking them.
