I think this must be some sort of project corruption. I get it every time with one particular project, but I've closed two different ones this morning without the problem.

Have you tried the 'export movie to MVD and import into a new project' fix?

Thanks, no, but will try that later today.
EDIT: Success, thanks John. In fact I didn't even need the MVD step. I simply copied the timeline to a new movie, deleted the original, and saved the project. No second close needed, nor after subsequent reloads.

I was also thinking that copying the timeline to another movie may work, and it indeed does.
