MEP2016 - Probleme with Exchange for importing

browj2 wrote on 1/28/2016, 12:33 PM

Hi,

Patch 15.0.0.90.

I am having a problem using Exchange to replace a clip on the timeline with a new clip. Instead of replacing the clip and moving the ones at the left to compensate, the new clip replaces the old one but the clips to the right move overtop of each other. I tried a clip that was shorter than the original, a longer one, and a jpg image. Only the jpg image was exchanged correcly and took on the length of the previous clip.

Can someone try this out to see if they get the same result? If so, it's a bug.

See video:

Thanks,

It works fine in VPX7.

I may have found the problem, which raises another problem. The clip that I was exchanging has a slight gap at the end. See below:

For better resolution.

The clip at the left is also an mp4. I'm zoomed in to frame level. The gap shown is a small fraction of a frame. When I export, there is no warning about gaps. As well, the range shows only 1 frame when I am over 2. If I trim off this last frame from the left video, it works ok, and the range becomes 2 frames.

The videos are from my BB cell phone in HD.

Any ideas as to how this could happen to a video clip?

Hi John CB

Works Ok for me irrespective of the gap.

However I would qualify that by saying that over here in PAL land we only deal in whole frames per second ie 25, 50 100 or 200 fps so our gaps are 1 whole frame minimum.

Is the cell phone video at a fixed frame rate ie 29.97 or 59.94 fps or is it variable?

Cheers

John EB

Hi John EB,

Thanks for asking. I'm assuming that it's fixed, but at 30fps and my move setting is 29.97fps, so that explains the slight gap, I guess. I tried out a few of these clips in VPX7 and they all have a gap.

I guess that I'll have to do more experimenting to find out what the original problem was. It hasn't happened on other clips or in other projects yet.

Thanks,
