MEP2016 plus

Securityman wrote on 11/15/2015, 10:05 PM

So am I the only one who finds multiple problems with 2016? This is the buggiest version I have ever owned (going back to MEP14). The video lags. The mouse control on anything within the time line freezes. The program will lock up requiring a forced shut down. The new font handling is crap! I have yet to burn a project but I am lowering my expectations. If this is the direction that Magix is going I will be looking elsewhere in the future.

Hi

What is your computer specification?

What is your Windows version - if 10 was this an upgrade from 7 or 8, or a clean install?

If Windows 10 upgrade was MEP 2016 installed before or after the upgrade?

If you are running Windows 10 and it was an upgrade from 7 or 8 and MEP 2016 was installed before the upgrade, then you need to re-install the software using this procedure.

. . . . The new font handling is crap! . . . .

How, what, why is this a problem?

John,

I am running a AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition  Quad-Core 3.4 GHz with 16g ram. 6tb storage. Graphics card is a ASUS Radeon HD 5450. Display is output to a 37in HD monitor (HDMI) as well as a 21in secondary or HD projector during edit reviews.

Still on Win 7 with all updated drivers. My machine is fast and accurate on all other software including 5 previous versions of MEP.

I have reinstalled 2016 to see if the program glitches during setup to no avail.

As far as the font handling I specifically refer to procedures for editing end-credit titles. Once you have entered all the info it is almost impossible to resize and color individual lines on text without affecting the entire input.

There are a few features on the new version that looked enticing but so far the headaches have far surpassed the benefits.

Hi Securityman

. . . . I have reinstalled 2016 . . .

Unistalling and re-installing does not always work if problem(s) are associated with the files that are left behind by the un-installer.  These files are not created at the time of installation so the un-installer cannot remove them.

If you wish to try re-installing, uninstall again, then delete any folders / files left behind relating to MEP 2016 that you find in the following folders:

  •  c:\Program files\Magix\ Movie Edit Pro 2016 . . . .

  •  c:\Program files (x86)\Magix\ Movie Edit Pro 2016 . . . .

  •  c:\ProgramData\Magix\ Movie Edit Pro 2016  - this is a hidden file so you may need to set Windows Explorer to show Hidden files.

There are other locations containing files left behind, however these do not affect the re-installation.

. . . . font handling I specifically refer to procedures for editing end-credit titles. . . . .

Can you give us an example of a specific font title / template / intro / outro etc which shows this problem?

HTH

Although I don't find MEP2016 as irritating as you clearly do, I agree on one thing. The whole titling subsystem, although powerful, is a UI minefield and clunky to use IMO. On the specifics of editing individual lines, when editing a given line, you must avoid highlighting the invisible character space at the end of a line, or your changes will also affect subsequent lines.

Thanks for the info Mike but that does not work either. Using the credit scrolling title I have found no way of editing one line that does not affect the entire group.

Update on my MEP2016 problems:

After spending 12 hours editing a theatre production (and dealing with the mountain of glitches in this "upgrade") I set the project to burn. 6 hours later I get an encoder error and the burn was aborted. I made some adjustments and tried again. Another waisted 6 hours. I uninstalled the entire program including all associated files. I downloaded the patch from Magix. I reinstalled the program and the 8 GB of other crap that needed to be installed if you want any functionality at all. I repaired all the video mistakes that the program had made to my production after the install. Now when I attempt to change the DVD title screen (as advised by a member) the program locks up and requires a soft-reset (cnt-alt-del) through the task manager.

I have 25 hours into a project that I doubt will burn. Am I happy with the crap that Magix calls an upgrade? No!

I have been using Magix programs for 8 years. I will be uninstalling all 5 of the programs that I currently  have on my computer and looking elsewhere for any programs relating to video editing, music design, and web page design!
