MEP17 folder settings - bug?

terrypin wrote on 10/11/2011, 8:20 AM

It's no big deal but for me neither the Projects nor Export folder settings under the Playback tab of Program Settings work properly. MEP always saves instead to wherever it last saved. I make a point of changing these folder settings when I start a new project, but I still have to change them when I then open a project or export.

Can anyone confirm please?

Hi Terry

The some of the settings does work as they should - when you click My Media, Projects or Recordings. on the left of the Import tab, they open up the specified folders in your folder path settings.

My Videos, My Pictures and My Music take you to the Windows specified locations for these folders which are usually in My Documents (read  Documents for Win 7), and Takes takes to the Magix created folder in your My Documents.  Change the location of your My Documents, as I have to my second HDD, and they still work correctly.

Hi John,

Thanks, but maybe I wasn't clear enough. My point was that when I change the folder settings here

then MEP should act accordingly, and it doesn't. If I then use File > Open or File > Save or File > Export, the default folders offered do not reflect the folder settings just made. They still show the previous folders.

Hi Terry

What you are seeing with File Open, File Save, and File Export is not unique to MEP and I consider normal behaviour as it is not MEP which is supplying the dialog but a call to Windows to open the necessary open/save etc dialog.

A lot of programs remember the last folders you opened, saved etc to eg Word, Excel, Paint Shop Pro etc, despite having default folders set.

Thanks John, understood.

I'd realised that it's standard, or at least common, for an app's Save and Open functions to use the last location, and I like that. I suppose I'd assumed that these two top folder settings were given some special 'semi-permanent' status by MEP, but see I was mistaken.
