MEP17 - Cause of a jumping/sticking file that is progressively getting worse?

learning wrote on 5/3/2013, 5:43 PM

I had a finished project which was perfect.  I did not export the file but kept it as a project file as I anticipated perhaps making some future changes. The file started jumping and jerking in places.  Now, everytime I open the file it has gotten worse?  It seems as it is degrading for no reason?  HELP!

I don't know, but I guess that your PC "is degrading" ? Over time things fill up the PC, that makes it work slower.

Try exporting your "jumping project"  to a wmv og mpg-file on your harddisk, and see  if it jumping now.

Cheers A

Hi

To add to Alans answer - you can do a disk cleanup to get rid of the trash that accumulates on your computer which can help a great deal.

To do this open Windows Explorer (My Computer or Computer) right click the C: drive - arrowed in image  - and select Properties.

Click the Disk cleanup button and work through the dialogs accepting the default options should be enough.

Note the cleanup can take a while to finish.

asoeli:

Thank you for your suggestion.  I did export the file to mpeg and unfortunately the "jumps and jerks" which are in the project exported just as they are in the project.  Will try johnebaker suggestions.  Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated as it is a 2:45min documentary with two years of work put in to it...

This is my disc space.  Cleaning it did not help the issue either.  I beleive there is something wrong with the software? Any other suggestions.

Hi

. . . . . I beleive there is something wrong with the software? . . . .

This is a very popular misconception that appears on this forum quite regularly.

There are too many other things going on in a computer that can affect the performance of programs which are very processor intensive like MEP.

Have you moved up to HD video?

What is your full computer specification and is Windows 32 bit or 64 bit - see here for more details on what we need.

Have you:-

changed / upgraded your Anit-virus program?

    installed any other video software?

too many programs running in the System Tray?

hello jonebaker:

You are very gracious to help with this mess....

Have you moved up to HD video? I have been using HD for some time.  Not anything new.

What is your full computer specification and is Windows 32 bit or 64 bit - see here for more details on what we need. 32 bit

Have you:-

changed / upgraded your Anit-virus program? It automatically updates everynight.

installed any other video software? no new software

too many programs running in the System Tray? I do have many things running in my System Tray but not anything different than I have had for months.

The strange thing about this...it was working beautifully for months - then something changed, and the project file started jumping/sticking AND every time I go in to view it the issue has gotten progressivly worse.  Perplexing.
