There are several interpretations of 'cookie-cutter'. How about a single example of what you want or a few words of description?

Hi Terry, thanks for the reply.  I would like to use it both to be able to cut out & show a particular part of an image & also to be able to use it as a mask to overlay and let other tracks show through.( As used with both Sony Vegas and Serif Movieplus.) It may be impossible because as I understand it I think to use it as a mask overlay you would have to be able to convert a track to a mask track. I think the correct term for it is compositing. If it can't be done in MEP  then I will have to produce the effect in one of the other programs, render it & then import into MEP. If you're wodering why I don't just use one of the other programs it's because I produce slideshows and MEP has the best auto version for doing this. Also it has the best sound (5.1) ad will work seamlessly  Xara's Graphic Designer.

Hey Warby,

Don't worry about using multiple editors to get the look that you want.  I currently use 3 different products because they all have different strengths and can do things that the others cannot.  However, my final productions are always created with Movie Edit Pro, because of the three it is the only one that I can rely on to be absolutely stable and not crash mid way through my final production process.

I would agree that MEP has one of the best slide show capabilities I have seen, but the application stability throughout the process is also superior to anything else I have used.

I also find the MEP workflow much more logical, flexible and tuned to the way I work than any of the others.

Hi Warby,

There are various ways of doing this. Here's a 6-step tutorial on one method:

Thanks for that info Terry, very helpful. I was that busy trying to work with the special effects masks I never thought of masking the next track with a normal mask. I've now copied the masks from the folder in program data & put them into the Magix download folder so that they are easy to get to. I've also made some of my own in Graphic Designer and put them in the folder so problem solved in the main, It's a shame though that tracks can't be made into parent child tracks but if I need that I can still use the other programs to give me the required effect as George has said.  Thanks for the comments George as you say each program has it's own strenghs.
