MEP MX 18 Prim - a world of problems ....

Thornsvad wrote on 11/24/2012, 6:14 AM

Hey :)

Im getting abit desperate here - i just bougth MEPMX18P, i have vorked with mep mx 16 at my old work and was very happy with it ... but v 18 ?! i crashed all the time, half the fades dont work proberly, the userinterface has a life of its own, and edit mode is allmost impossible to use adding new videos to a track moves sounds and movies i have all ready done, the preview is next to useless, it skips alot of frames and sometimes whole sections. every so often i have to close down the pogra to reload it just to be able to use the track editor.

I have such a hard time beliveing that v16 is that much better then v18 when it come to beeing useable. not to mention it keeps crashing. it seems like a beta version that was never compleated.

Have anyone experienced anything like that or am i just that unlucky ?!

I read alot about a MEP 2013 but it seems v18 is the newest avaiable where i live ... Denmark. or is it the same?

I know my computer is not to blaim for this i have 8 GB of mem 3.0 duo core CPU and a ATI 5970

You'd need to spell out each individual problem in full detail if you want us to comment on whether they arise in MEP 2013 Premium.

Presumably you've read all threads here about 2013 to check for apparent matches?

Hi

Can you include your full computer specification, whether you are working with HD or SD video and which version of Windows you have and is it 32bit or 64bit.

I know my computer is not to blaim for this i have 8 GB of mem 3.0 duo core CPU and a ATI 5970

Do you mean dual core or quad core duo?

Hi

"adding new videos to a track moves sounds and movies i have all ready done...."

Are you attempting to reopen projects from MEP16 in MEP18MX? This is known to cause problems because certain reference files (.avd) that were used in versions prior to MEP17 are no longer used in MX.

Hi

Thank you for the full spec- your system is as I suspected.

For HD movies your system is very underpowered - the symptoms you describe - half the fades dont work proberly, the userinterface has a life of its own, and edit mode is allmost impossible to use adding new videos to a track moves sounds and movies i have all ready done, the preview is next to useless, it skips alot of frames and sometimes whole sections

- are symptomatic of a CPU that cannot keep up with what it is being asked to do.

For HD the minimum Magix spec is 'Intel® Core™ 2 Quad-core processor with 2.83 GHz (Intel® Core™ i7 recommended) or AMD® Quad-core processor with 2.8 GHz'

For SD your cmputer should in theory be capable and run reasonably smoothly, however without knowing what other applications are running at the same time it is difficult to tell what could be causing the problem - my first suspect however would be Antivirus software.

Are you using the BitLocker option in Win 7 Ultimate?

John

Hi John,

Is Thornsvad's PC really that underpowered?

With 7 GB RAM and 3.0 GHz Dual Core CPU it seems pretty good to me. Better than mine for sure, although I know that's not saying much! But I work at HD level (1920x 1080) and my problems (mainly preview jerkiness) don't sound anywhere approaching those that Thornsvad described.

My PC is a Quad Core 2.66 GHz, approx 3 GB RAM (4 GB but running under XP) and a 512 MB nVIDIA GeoForce 8800GT.

Or is it the fact that mine is Quad core vesus Thornsvad's Dual core a major factor?

I have monitored my CPU usage and it is not even maxed out its pretty stable at 80-85%. when showing a previev (not pre-rendered). The problems are there no matter if i try to use 2 simple titles and make a fade between them or HD/SD video. The system is very unstable in it self and often crashed wile loading a project created in 18 or dureing editing ... last time i just created a titel and it crashed.

I have tryed to reinstall it on another drive a SSD drive this time to enhance data transfer ... same thing

the specifications you mention and recomemded - the minimum requirements are way below what i have so it should run if not totally smooth, then atleast without all the problems i have. Terry are you haveing problems with your mep 2013 thats anything like the ones im descripeing ?

When i say that the GUI in edit mode gets a life of its own, i mean that all of the sudden it expands one track with makeing the rest very small, or keeps jumping doen the track row to a random track number ... like 10 or 20 then i have to scroll up again to 1, a few secs later it jumps again... scrolling back and forth in the timeline is sure to replicate this error ... to avoid it i have to restart MEP 18 about every 10 - 15 min and not scroll alot back and forth, this surgest a memory leak to me but im not sure.

From your answers i guess none of you have seen this before ?

Thank you for your time i really appriciate it :)

Hi Morten.

No, as I said, with my apparently less powerful PC I don't have many issues. As most here will know, I am pretty fussy and critical of MEP, but I couldn't work with a program in the state you describe.

Did you completely remove all traces of the old version before the re-install? I haven't had to do that so far in all these years from MEP 11 onward, but I believe there is a Magix utility for doing that. John or one of the other guys may be able to give you a link.

What was your source, a download? If so, I assume you've re-downloaded in case that was a rare corrupted file?

You cannot compare your PC to Thornsvad' because you have a 4 core CPU and the E8400 is a 2 core CPU - that is a big difference

As I said - for HD the computer is underpowered, for SD it should be OK.

The further comments from Thornsvad about the behaviour ie  'mind of its own' suggests there is something seriously interfering with MEP or the PC itself.

@ Thornsvad

This may seem a stupid suggestion however - try a different mouse - I have seen this behaviour with an intermittent faulty mouse.

Failing that, try running some system diagnostics to see if there is a hardware malfunction.

Does the misbehaviour occur with other programs?

Hey John

I have changed the CPU to a quad core 2.66, just to test it - no diffrence at all - heaven benchmark indicates a drop in FPS useing the quad core vs the dual core 3.0 - that and the CPU doesnt max out indicates that its not a CPU problem, even though, i will not exclude it.

Will test the mouse, both mouse is with cabel .... testing .... MEP 18 crashed wile createing a new empty project ... replugging my old mouse.

I have no problems anywhere else, i run Blender without any problems (3d rendering software).

Im at a lose i have tryed to update diffrent drivers among thouse the chipset drivers ... no luck....

I will try and install MEP 18 on another computer and see how it behaves there ... and that computer is underpowered :)

I have Photo & graphic designer from magix installed as well and i have no problems with that...

Im just about to throw in the towel ...

Hi Morten

I have not had these problems with MEP18. Does MEP give any error messages when it closes - like access violation or some xxxx.dll problem?

FYI MEP never maxes out the CPU in task manager in my experience.

Hi Morten

I can understand why you are at a loss with this one - nothing seems to make any sense !!!!

It is a good idea to try the installation on another computer, if it also misbehaves then the problem narrows down to a bad installation disc.

If it runs OK on the second computer then the problem is with the first computer and/or there is some kind of issue between MEP and Windows 7 Ultimate or the hardware.

Do you have a lower specification graphics card you can try in the computer showing the problems?

Where did you purchase MEP from, and was the Windows 7 Ultimate a clean install or through an upgrade from previous version(s) of Windows?

Also what antivirus do you have installed?

John
