MEP 2016 - Couple questions about design elements...

Joom wrote on 9/27/2015, 10:37 AM

Just picked up MEP 2016 Plus and got everything downloaded and installed, but on first walkthrough have a couple questions.

I select a clip, then place an intro on it (Design elements), which works fine.  However, if I then place an 'Image object' on the clip the intro disappears.  Tried it multiple times.  Is this a known behavior, and if so does that mean I can't have an intro and an image object on the same clip?

Also, I can't seem to find a way to move or resize an image object once placed on a clip.  Am I missing something here?

Thanks for any help with these...

Hi

. . . . I select a clip, then place an intro on it (Design elements), which works fine.  However, if I then place an 'Image object' on the clip the intro disappears.  Tried it multiple times.  Is this a known behavior, and if so does that mean I can't have an intro and an image object on the same clip? . . .

It is the correct behaviour - Intro, Outro and Image object are mutually exclusive.

If you want to have an Intro and Outro on the same video clip then the clip has to be cut into 2 parts and the Intro and Outro applied to the individual parts.

To add an Image object as well as Intro and Outro and have it over the full length of the video clip:

Cut the clip in two places so you have three sections - length does not matter.

Apply Intro to the 1st section, Image object to the 2nd section and the Outro to the 3rd section.

Select the 2nd section and Ungroup the video and Image object

You can now stretch the Image object to the full length of the video clip (you may have to move it to a lower track).

Thanks for that, John, appreciate the reply.  Makes sense, though I wouldn't know why they would be mutually exclusive.  Seems that effects should be stackable.  In any case, I'll just use that technique.  Just thought I might have been doing something wrong.

I'm still wondering about resizing image objects, though.  Still can't seem to be able to move or resize them...

Hi,

Can you describe in more detail what you are doing? I have no problem resizing objects (images, video clips and titles), so please go through the steps, illustrated, as to what you are trying to do.

Hi

. . . . about resizing image objects . . . .

In principle you do the following:-

Select the object you want to resize.

Select Effects Tab, View/Animation, Size/Position

There are two options for adjusting the selected clip:

  • Using the Preview monitor

The select object will have orange handles at the corners and middle of the sides - dragging any of these will resize the object.

To move the resized object move the mouse pointer anywhere inside it and drag into position.

Note: by default the object will maintain its Aspect Ratio (AR)

  • Using the Size/Position dialog - see image below

Adjust the Width or Height using the appropriate spinner buttons or enter a value direct in to the appropriate box - only use one or the other to maintain the AR.

Adjust the position using the Left and Top spinners or entering the value in the appropriate box - they will accept negative values to move off screen.

More is on page 144 of the installed PDF manual.

If you have not read the manual I would recommend you do so there is a lot of useful information in there.

Hi

. . . . about resizing image objects . . . .

Browj2, thanks for the reply, but Johnebaker has solved it for me.

Johnebaker, exactly what I needed.  Thanks.  I had searched breifly through the PDF, but had apparently missed this.  I had checked "Size/Position", but it automatically selected the clip itself.  Trying it again after reading your post, I realized I then had to again select the object.

I simply need to spend more time with the manual and trying things out.  My primary editors are HitFilm Pro 3 and Vegas, but I've always liked MEP's ease for certain tasks.  And with this latest version, would like to make more use of it.  It really is a good editor with a lot of features.

Thanks again to both of you...
