MEP 2014 Takes still unusable?

terrypin wrote on 8/27/2014, 2:43 AM

I think it's been about seven months at least since I first reported (here and to Support) that Takes in MEP 2014 were unusable. We've had at least a couple of patches since then. But for me at least Takes still seem to be buggy to the point of unusable.

I successfully saved a take. I then used the right click Rename. The Take disappeared! I've repeated that with other takes.

I had some other weird behaviour (at one stage the monitor displayed a selected take at about 2/3 size, displaced into the top left corner) but I can't repeat that yet this morning.

Can others successfully rename a Take please?

Hi Terry,

You're right, well, almost. The take disappears from the list.

I forgot to at the extension .TK2. I did that and the take came back.

Did you forget to include the extension?

Yes!

Thanks John.

(But on a point of design, although it's simple enough to add, IMO the user shouldn't need to tell MEP that its takes have a .TK2 extension!)

Hi Terry,

I agree. This was not obvious and the extension should be automatic. However, I noticed that if the Display mode is Details, there is a type column with TK2 in it. If you change the name in this mode, you only touch the main pant and you do not have to touch the extension; it stays as TK2. But if you are in Large icons mode, which I was, then you have to include the extension.

One point about your other posting about adverts, I received the same one as you for Music Maker 2015, but the version for the UK. Does that make me an honorary Brit? Unlike in your case, the advert did not come back after I clicked on do not show again.

Leaving aside this renaming issue, re-testing just now confirms that the bugs I reported seven months ago remain. Fully justifying the term 'unusable'.

The serious issue can be summed up fairly simply. If you ungroup the audio from a video clip and then save a Take of either the video or audio part, you get a scrambled mess which is a combination of other irrelevant timeline objects.
