MEP 2014 Takes

terrypin wrote on 2/25/2014, 8:10 AM

Magix replicated the problem I reported early in the year. Takes remain totally unusable for me in MEP 2014. After saving, when played back they seem to be a scrambled mix of all sorts of irrelevant clips.

Others getting same problem?

Hi Terry,

MEP2014 Premium:

Takes work fine for me. They even have images on them now. The old ones don't, but I guess that is understandable. I tried dragging in old ones as well as making new ones. No problems so far.

I noticed that there were 2 patches since I upgraded last. I checked the takes with both 13.0.2.8 and 13.0.3.14:

Important changes in version 13.0.3.14 compared to version 13.0.2.8
•Upload function for showfy
•Fix: Thumbnail display in the Media Pool
•Localization errors has been corrected

Important changes in version 13.0.3.10 compared to version 13.0.2.8
•Fix: MPEG2/MPEG4-Presets

Thanks John.

I should have added that all my Takes were collages. Simple clips are OK.

MAGIX replicated.

Hi Terry,

Wow! I never thought to try collages, only parts of long video clips where I wanted to break them up for future use (i.e. imported VHS files). You are brave. I tried and imported the collaged take into a new project. Terrible.

I also noticed that with a collage of photos the "Save objects as takes" is greyed out. Video and Wav objects can be takes. A collage of at least one video object with some photos can be a take. Still reimporting collages as takes does not work.

Workaround, export the collage or anything with a complicated effect to Video as Magix video, limited to the range. That way you can give the "take" a name. One of the problems I found with takes is that there is no way to give the take a name, or at least I couldn't find one. I guess the file could be renamed. Also, I found that with many effects, playback becomes terrible. Replacing them with Magix video clips speeds up the playback while I work on new parts of the movie.

Terry,

I tried importing the takes made with 2014 into Pro X6. Same bad result.

In X6 the way to create takes is quite different. There is no line in the menu like in MEP. They use a file folder of everything that is in the movie. The object gets saved there and then you have to save it as a take. This allows one to name the take.

However, I created some collages in X6 and there are problems with some of them. They really don't work properly. Exporting and importing a collage as a take works better than in MEP2014, but they still have problems. I will investigate further and advise Magix. They can try to solve both issues at once, for MEP and X6.

Lastly, the takes in X6 don't have images on the icons. Back to the same problem encountered in MEP.

Hi John,

Thanks for the follow-up.

You can rename Takes in MEP:

I had the same problem even with various AVI clips, no collage involved.

No big deal, as I don't use Takes that much and you can easilty work around the issue. But it's another example of the apparent lack of thoroughness of Magix pre-release testing. We seem to get a new batch of bugs with successive releases. A comprehensive 'feature test' with wide ranging source material covering all major functions, probably scripted, would catch most of these IMO. Where is that famous Vorsprung durch Technik ?
