MEP 2013 glitchy playback

apollocreed1981 wrote on 1/7/2016, 5:05 PM

I have the 2013 version of Magix Movie Edit Pro. The playback on my videos is gltichy, both in the editing suite and after I export my files, both as WMV and MP4. My computer spec is well above the minimum requirements for running the program and I don't understand why it is not working. I would really appreciate your help as I am nearly finished a long project and have put a lot of work into it!

Hi

More information is needed:

What is your computer specification? Please be specific, 'is well above the minimum requirements for running the program' is not helpful.

How long is the project on the timeline?

What objects are on the timeline ie video, images, audio etc ?

What format are the video objects on the timeline ie file type and resolution?

What export settings are you using for wmv and mp4?

Is the project and / or any video files being used in it ,stored on a external USB drive?

Thanks Johnebaker and apologies for not giving enough info in the first one.  Here is some more info:-

Hard drive space: Minimum:2 GB for program installation

2. PROJECT LENGTH - 50 minutes.  I made the videos on a Sony Handycam DCR-SR77 and uploaded to my laptop.  Each separate video, when uploaded to the computer was a windows media player file: - .mpg files. The original .mpg files all run smoothly on the laptop.

3. OBJECTS ON TIMELINE - video images.  In some cases, with sound from video A, played over sound from video B etc. with some text, and layering.

4. Export settings wise, I have tried avi, wmv and mp4 and each turns out glitchy when I export.

5. Storage - I have made a back up of the original videos on external hardrive, but they are also stored on my laptop.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this and I will come straight back to you if you need further info.

Hi Apollo

Thank you for the information.

Certainly I agree with you that MEP should not be stuttering with standard definition mpg files.

I suspect that you have either a codec issue or another program is interfering and taking resources away from playing video.

Do you have any of the 'all in one' codec packs eg K-Lite etc. or any additional video or audio codecs or sfotware installed?

Was your Windows 10 an upgrade from 7 or 8 and MEP installed before the upgrade?

If so do then I would suggest re-installing the software using the this procedure this will also check that your Windows 10 installation is OK.

Thanks Johnebaker

I do not know the answer to the codec question, but I am going to get to the bottom of it in the next few days.

I only recently upgraded to Windows 10 from 7.  I had installed MEP before the upgrade, but I also had the stuttering issue before the upgrade.

I will look at re-installing the software using the linked process (thank you for that) to rule that out as an issue.

I really appreciate your help!

Thank you

hi there

just to update you.

I installed K-lite codec pack and my glitchy problem continues.

The Windows Media Player original video files I have, play through perfectly.  However, when I put them into the editing suite in MEP, playback is glitchy, even without actually editing the video.  It continues to be glitchy when exported.

No other program is interferring with MEP that I can see.  Although I did recently upgrade to Windows 10, this issue was happening before that.

I am now thinking of just transferring all my files to my wife's mac and starting the 50 min project again, from scratch, so I would be really grateful if anyone has any ideas on what I can do to resolve this problem.

Thanks

Apollo

Also - one further question- say if the issue is MEP 2013.  If I download a newer version of MEP, would I be able to transfer the project into it (so I wouldn't have to start from scratch?)

Really appreciate anyone's guidance on this.
