MEP 2013 capturing video with Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle through USB 3.0.

I need to know if this device will, or will not work with MEP so I can go a different direction if I have to...

Is anybody else successfully using an Intensity Shuttle for video input and capturing with MEP 2013? According to what I've read on line, Magix Movie Edit Pro is in the list and is supposed to be compatible with the Intensity Shuttle.

I am in the process of upgrading my Dell XPS Core i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz, 12 GB RAM, DVD & BD burners, nVidia GeForce GT-545 card, Realtek HD Audio ability to do HD content with MEP by installing a PCI-e USB 3.0 card and a Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle which plugs into the USB 3.0 port. I'm replacing an analog Hauppauge Impact VCB-e Model 01381 card and I'm not having much luck. MEP can see the device and gives me lists of video resultions, audio and other settings but I continually get "Unable to connect to device", no matter what input I try. The Intensity Shuttle is great, if I can get it to work! It has analog RCA composite, s-video, digital component and HDMI Inputs and Outputs and will up convert and down convert from SD 480 to HD 1080, which are features I need to do what I do with MEP.

I've even tried to get it to work with MEP 17, but get the same results. It may be something that I'm not doing right. If I know that there are others using it and having good luck with it, then it's something not set right here.

What are other people using to do video capturing from external video devices such as VCR's and HD Cameras. I have a DVI/Firewire card and that works just fine (or did). If there is something else that works better, I all ears!

This is most likely a driver issue with the Shuttle.

Which version of Windows do you have and is it 32bit or 64bit.

If 64bit Windows then try installing the 32bit drivers for the Shuttle.

It is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I'm not sure what version the driver is on the disc that came with the shuttle. It just installed everything automatically so it may have installed the 64 bit driver. I'll check and try to find the 32 bit driver and cross my fingers it solves my problem.

Do you actually use one of these on your computer with MEP? If so, which settings do you use to capture video from the HDMI or Component inputs?

I do not use a shuttle - my video camera records to internal hard drive which makes transfer of video to the computer very easy - it appears as an external hard drive when connected.

I could do that too with some of the productions I do but I recently purchased an HD Video camera that will pass the image from the HD CCD directly out through the HDMI or Component video. I am trying to use it for capturing video from a film projector to increase the quality of the transfers into MEP.

I will be looking for a 32 bit driver tonight. I also found there is an extra power cable needed to supply additional power the USB 3.0 PCIe card I installed. I can 't plug that in until I get the proper power cable for it. I don't know if that might be causing the issue with the shuttle but I'll report back with my findings so maybe it might help somebody else with the same issue.

Got the Intensity Shuttle to connect to the inputs. I was missing the power connection to my USB 3.0 PCIe card. Now that I have connection, I find the Shuttle isn't functioning right. I get great audio and video from the HDMI and Component digital inputs but the video keeps droppping to black at random intervals. I tried recording into MEP 2013 and each time the video blinks I lose 20 to 30 frames at a time, audio continues. In a 1 minute recording it dropped 250 frames. I switched over to the RCA analog inputs and got sound but no video and after 10 seconds, the audio stopped as well. I spent hours trying to figure out where the problem lies, including trying the Shuttle with my older MEP 17. Nothing made any difference. In doing research on this Shuttle, I found I have the only, and most current driver that is available for it. My 1 year old computer has all the system requirements, the NEC chip in my USB 3.0 device has the correct firmware installed with the correct driver, yet I am having troubles. I found a forum dedicated to this device and discovered it is an engeneering flaw in the device. The MFG does not respond or fix any issues with the device, there are known issues with it, and have been since 2010. Some people are having to reboot their computer every time they want to use it, others have to reinstall the firmware every time they start their computer. Lots of known issues, not a lot of good answers for a fix.

Needless to say, the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle was packed up and returned for credit. Great idea except it doesn't work reliably. I will be trying a Avertv HD DVR High Definition / Analog Video Capture Card PCIe Model MTVHDDVRR and will see if I have better luck with THAT!
