MEP 17+ HD moved project will not restore/rebuild

I have a project, where all the media and the MVP file were in one folder/directory.  I copied this folder to another drive for archiving (I do my editing on a SSD drive, archive on a standard HDD).  I wanted to reopen the project in MEP and tried to do so on the HDD. Not too surprisingly (I'm on Windows!), MEP was confused by this, and asked to find the first of a large number of media files.  In the dialog box, I navigated to the necessary media file, and then it asked for the second...

Here is my first question, which I would think is obvious, but I cannot find answers online nor on "Help" pdf file:

1: is there a way to point the software at the FOLDER that contains all the media, so that it can reconstruct the  project without the user having to point the software at each and every single separate media resource one at a time?? (The dialog box even asks for a "folder" but will only accept a file as a selection!)

(I understand that some projects might pull media from several different folders, and that in this case one might have to show the software more than one location to help it reconstruct the project.  But in this case all my media files are in one place).

Now what I've done to work around my problem in the interim is very simply copy my project folder back onto my SSD.  Now all the pathnames to all the media should be  the same.  What really surprised me: MEP STILL cannot find the media files!  Granted they might now be in different "sectors" on the SSD, but the logical locations/pathnames will be the same as they were when the project was initially authored.  So my second question:

2: why is MEP not recognizing a project that has been placed back on the original storage device, when it was authored?  How can I reconstruct this project, without having to go one by one through dozens upon dozens of dialogs, one for each individual separate bit of media that is incorporated into the project?

Many thanks in advance for tips!

Boris
