Markers showing in Chinese characters in Go To window

Paul-Fegan wrote on 10/20/2021, 1:57 PM

Hi all. This is a strange issue. When I click "Go To", all my markers show up in Chinese characters (see pic below). The markers look fine in the actual audio files. Any ideas what might be causing this? All my language settings in Windows 10 are set-up for English.

Thanks,

Paul

Which Sound Forge version and build are you using @Paul-Fegan ?

I can confirm the china text exists with Sound Forge Pro-14, build 140 on my PC.

Sound Forge Pro-15, (build 64) does not exhibit any abnormalities in the 'Go to' drop-down menus.

Hi Rick, so sorry; I meant to include that info. Yes, I have SF 14 Pro, build 140 on Windows 10 64-bit. Any idea how to fix it? It wasn't like this in SF 13.

Thanks,

Paul

I am not aware of a remedy @Paul-Fegan, and I do not know if there will be another SFP-14 update.. probably not since it is a minor annoyance and SFP-16 will be coming along soon. As I stated, SFP-15 does not have the issue. If it really bothers you, try Magix support.

I am currently experiencing this odd behavior on SF Pro 15 (build 64).

Wow, SF16 already. They're certainly ploughing through the version numbers. Are the improvements big enough to warrant full version numbers? Anyway, thanks for confirming that it's not just on my PC. I'll contact MAGIX and see if they have a decent workaround, other than just scrolling along the timeline to find certain markers.

Cheers,

Paul

It should be fixed in the next SFP-15 update then. I have a beta test version and that is OK,

I do not know how soon or when SFP-16 will be published, it is 'in the works'.

OK, cool, thank you both for confirming that it's not just my PC. Cheers.

That's why I stayed with version 14, because none of the "great innovations" in version 15 "knocked me off my chair".
Making money is one side of the coin - customer satisfaction is the other.
Magix should consider that it doesn't always work out well when you try to make double the money with half measures.

Yeah, although I find the same thing with Izotope. I had RX 6 and only updated to RX 9 recently because the changes on successive versions weren't huge. To be honest, I still don't know if 9 is a massive improvement.
I love Sound Forge so I'm glad MAGIX took the baton from Sony in order to keep it going, but in the old days, new versions were as rare as hens' teeth so I'm just not used to the rate at which they're coming out now.

Magix releases a new version every year. They did this with their software since they started in the mid 1990s. It is not neccessay to buy a new version each year. It is possible upgrade from a very old version for the same price as from a current version. I often skip three or four versions until I upgrade. So it is always a good idea if everyone stays on an older version until there are enough new features that will justify the upgrade price.

Yes, makes perfect sense.

FWIW, I still use SFP-10 occasionally. I prefer the mode-less Fx chainer and the legacy 'record' user interface in some situations.

Paul-Fegan wrote on 10/22/2021, 9:23 AM

SF 10 was the first version I bought when I became a sole-trader and I loved it (had been using SF since v4.5 in my previous job).

I never use the FX chainer because I use Normalize every time and it can't be added to the chainer. Really frustrating.

rraud wrote on 10/22/2021, 12:11 PM

@Paul-Fegan I have requested the development team add that option to SFP-16. It may not be possible though.

Paul-Fegan wrote on 10/22/2021, 12:58 PM

I requested it a few years ago, too, Rick, when I was doing some usability testing for them. Given that it's been available in the old Batch Converter for years, I'm hoping it's not a big deal to add it to the Plug in Chainer.
