Manual

mikelockey wrote on 2/15/2017, 10:22 AM

I've just bought Samplitude Music Studio - and missed the £20 off as usual; next day.

I'm quite impressed but as usual the manual and videos don't make the options very clear and hours have to be spent working things out.

1. I've finally managed to produce a MIDI list from an imported file but for all the tracks when I only want to see one. Similarly for the music.

2. I bought Saxophonia which was easy to download and install. However, I'm informed that VSTs in the form of dll.s can be downloaded from elsewhere and stored in the VST folder with others where Samplitude will find it and use it. I've downloaded a solo trumpet file which sounds excellent on the Webpage but I've tried copying it all over into the 32bit and the 64 bit VST folders - adding it to other files and so on but ................ as you can guess I can't get Samplitude to read it and use it. Any ideas please? Do I need an installing programme?

Hi Mike,

I'm away from home for a couple of weeks and can't help much, but you may want to join up on the Samplitude Pro forum and also check out YouTube videos on Samplitude by Kraznet. He has done more tha 150 of them on wide-ranging topics from basic to expert.

Hi
I don't have Samplitude Pro - Samplitude Studio.

Hi Mike,

Samplitude Music Studio is a watered down version of Samplitude Pro. The engine and screens are the same, just less features. Many of the Kraznet videos apply to your version.

Specifically, which VST folder did you use. Show the path.

After putting the VST files in a folder, did you add the path to them? Press P, go down to Effects, VST/Rewire, click on the browser beside VST plugin path and navigate to the folder with the instrument that you added, then try it. You should put the instruments under a separate folder with a name like Third party Instruments or something, directly under the VST folder and not under VST\Magix. Let me know if that works.

I will try to download some free DSK instruments and install them. Problem is that the Internet connection where I am is slow as frozen molasses.

EDIT: I didn't succeed in downloading what I wanted, always stopped short of the complete file. But I have one installed at:

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\Third Party\BlueARP_Win_v2.2.3

In the instrument list, it shows up under "New instrument" "Third party".....

Add I added the path as indicated above.

Hi Browj

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the way lighter (lite) versions are produced. There are many programmes like this especially Adobe's stuff..

I added the download to various places in the VST folder which was originally installed by Cakewalk but has the Magix stuff inside it.I've followed the Rewire route as advised in the manual. I've tried a separate folder but still nothing is found. How did you add the "path"?

Hi,

Put the files in a folder as I indicated.

Press P, go down to Effects, VST/Rewire, click on the browser beside VST plugin path and navigate to the folder with the instrument that you added, then try it.

Hi

Done that several times in different ways. My Samplitude only seems to like Magix VSTs :-(

browj2 wrote on 2/18/2017, 6:56 AM

Hi Mike,

What VSTi are you trying?

I finally managed to download DSK Saxophonia, unzipped it under my Third Party folder as located where I mentioned and it showed up and opened with no problems. Try a free one from DSK.

Hi

I've already downloaded the brass one from DSK - DSK_Brass unzipped (2 days ago) - stuck the dll in "Third party" in both my VST folders - provided by Cakewalk. Cakewalk's VSTs show up in Samplitude but no DSK Brass. Have I got something not turned on somewhere or should I be running something in the programme to find them? I don't have Samplitude Pro.

Hi

Success with a sax from Iowa!! But ............... it has a separate folder with instruments in it (.mse) - it only works with that in the VST64bit folder - nothing from the 32 bit folder. Do I need another file from DSK??

Regards

mikelockey wrote on 2/18/2017, 8:11 PM

So now I have several 64bit VSTs working. They all need an instrument folder so I guess DSK forgot in the brass one. Now.............

How do I list and see the staff of one file. At the moment I can only see all the tracks.

Regards

browj2 wrote on 2/19/2017, 3:26 AM

Hi Mike,

Glad to see that you're making progress.

Yes, DSK needs a folder and usually a subfolder containing the various patches or instruments. For the sax there are 2, Soprano and Tenor and you need these .mse files or you have no sax. So it is not just the dll file.

Double-click on a MIDI object to open the piano roll. Expand it full screen. Look at the top row of buttons. You may have 2 score buttons - score editor (linear) and score editor (page mode).

Lots of tools to play with.

Hi

I've looked at several videos as you suggested - thanks. I know about the double click and the icons at the top. However, I can't just see ONE track. I have an excellent MIDI programme made by Yamaha but no longer available and I can tweak all the midi commands.

I have discovered that when I assign a VST to a track sometimes it distorts because its volume (7) is too loud. I can produce the list and change entries, but I have to scroll through all the tracks until I find the command, which I can then alter.

Does this programme allow you to edit just one track or do I always have them all?

Thanks for your support.

I take it that you imported a multi-instrument and that they are grouped. Not sure if this is right but try ungrouping them to see if you can select just one object on one track.

I'm used to Magix video software so I should have thought about that! - OK now - it works.

Now I can't output an mp3 which Media player will play.... ho hum.

Fiddled about with my soundcard - updated windows (again) and now I can export.

mikelockey wrote on 3/1/2017, 4:02 PM

I'm having a funny effect now with my modulation command. It's entered as a modulation command in nthe midi file but it doesn't appear in the Samplitude list. It's having the effect of a pitch shift with Saxophonia resulting in the note not being sounded because it's now too low. The preceding note (the same) sounds but not aftyer the modulation command. Any ideas?

Kind regards

OK - solved that!
