making sure i-cloud photos are actually on my computer

Diane-Roche wrote on 8/20/2022, 2:59 PM

I needed to clear space on i-cloud and my phone and so I stopped syncing my icloud and my phone. I have about 15 days left to make sure all 5,000 photos that are still up in i-cloud are downloaded and saved to my old Microsoft Surface pro computer which I will only use for managing photos. I purchased Magix Photo Manager and imported all the pictures and can see them and sort them but I don't see them stored anywhere on my computer's hard drive. I don't see anyplace on the bottom of the screen to save them. Any advice? Thanks!

Also, what do the little tear-drop shaped icons mean? They are on some photos but not all.

@Diane-Roche

Hi

Depending on the options you selected PhotoManager (PM) may have catalogued the images in their current location rather then downloaded them.

I would suggest you follow the Apple method described here for downloading all your photos to the PC, then use PM to catalog the images.

The let PM catalog the folder you put them into.

@Diane-Roche

Hi,

Further to what John EB indicated, no photos are imported into Photo Manager. It just finds and lists photos that are on your computer, somewhat like Windows Explorer. For any that are added to the Database part, it just gets the file information from your hard drive(s), not the actual photo itself. It also catalogues audio and video files.
