Not sure exactly what you are asking however I think what you want is a duplicate of the original which you can edit while keeping the original intact

1.  Open the original project then select File, Manage movies, Export save the exported movie project changing its name.

2.  Create a new project, closing the original,  then select File, Manage movies, Remove from project - this will detach the blank movie project.

3.  Select File, Manage movies, Attach and browse to where you saved the movie project in 1 and attach it.

4.  Save the new project with a different name.

You will now have a duplicate of the original project/movie which you can edit to give the highlights and still keep the original.
