Magix Video deluxe plus 2021 keeps crashing as it fills up my RAM

florian-l wrote on 11/30/2023, 9:11 AM

Hi everybody!

Since a few days i have the following problem:

I am editing a video with 7 video lanes. I know this is memory intensive but i have done more intensive projects before without a problem.

Now i can only do like 5 cuts until the software fills my RAM to like 95% and then becomes unresponsive and i have to close it via task manager.

Now the real bad thing: The same happens during exports. I cannot export a 6 minute long 1080p 25fps film as the software fills up the RAM and then aborts the export with error message: Hardware not supported. It there a fix for this?

My System:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 on MSI B450 Pro M VDH Plus

16GB DDR4 2666

AMD RX6700XT 12GB

750W Seasonic PSU

240 GB Crucial BX200

1000GB Crucial P1

As i said the software didn´t behave like this before and is unusable as is.

With kind regards, Florian

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

The first thing I would do is check that your graphics driver is up to date on the AMD website.

Next there should be at least 10GBs of unused space on your C: drive to allow the program to produce temp files while the program is in use. Preferably more if you are also running out of ram as C: drive space will be used instead. Without enough spare free disk capacity the program will slow down or freeze.

How much spare space is on your project drive?

You do not say what operating system you are on.

Thanks for the Reply.

AMD Drivers are up to date, i have 52gb free on C: and 127gb free on D: where the video files are placed.

I am using Windows 10 22H2

Interestingly the export now works fine with hardware acceleration disabled. Maybe the programm does not work with the newer AMD cards as well?

With kind regards, Florian

Hi Florian.

As far as published specs are concerned your AMD RX6700XT 12GB (released 2021) should be well within spec.

Did you use the AMD auto detect feature on their website to check for updates?

Some graphics drivers have been known to effect some video programs in the past. I have not heard anything so far about that on this forum so for now I would discount that.

Have you used videos from a new / different phone or camera or chosen a higher resolution to shoot at?

When you disabled hardware acceleration from the GPU in the program, did the memory stop increasing as before? What did the memory usage top out at for your system ram and GPU ram?

Did you try the alternative renderer?

Have you accidentality ticked the 'Output to monitors with higher bit depth'?

The latest Windows build for Windows 10 is 19045.3693 but not sure that was released for Windows home editions.

The November 14, 2023-(KB5032339) Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for Windows 10 Version 22H2 should be on your computer. If you don't have it then you may find links to download it from Microsoft here.

Hi Florian.

I should add I am running Movie Edit Pro 2022 on Windows 10 Enterprise edition but with Intel CPU nvidia combo less powerful than your own and that is running OK (so far) despite any Windows updates, but sometimes a Windows update or graphics driver update means having to update one to keep up with the other.

I think you have enough drive space.

Hey Ray,

AMD drivers are up to date. I should mention that is switched from an AMD RX480 a few weeks back and this is the first time i am editing with this card in use. But as Magix basically doesn´t utilize the card for anything but video effects i am not to sure how this contributes to my problem.

I used a variety of cameras for this project but 1080p 30fps for all of them and the problem occurs on files of all these systems. Should not be the issue.

With deactivated hardware acceleration memory usage increased as before but it did not stop the export once the RAM filled up but kept its high usage. The Programm would then freeze once it finished the export (file is fully usable) but i have to close MVD via task manager again as it becomes unresponsive. GPU Ram is like 0.5gb/12 at max.

For video mode in the settings i am using standard mode (hardware acceleration, Direct3D). I will try if alternative mode changes anything and come back to you.

I have the latest windows install as you mentioned it.

I am a bit torn in the moment if the GPU is causing problems or if it is something else as the failures occur when the system memory fills up and MVD does not seem to use AMD GPUs in any meaningfull way besides video playback.

with kind regards,

Florian

Hi Florian.

We do see more people with problems using AMD graphics cards here than from nvidia users despite the Magix website stating both are usable. Not so much with people also coupling them to the higher end Threadripper CPUs. Why this happens I have no idea. It is the reason most people who participate in replying to the topics here tend to use nvidia graphics cards for video editing.

I have read on some other video editing forums that encoding video that is shot at 30fps causes more problems than 25 fps or 50fps.

Just as an experiment try exporting at 50fps. The resulting file may not play back that smoothly but just to see if the encoding finishes without crashing.

If you are not trying to burn DVDs or Blu-ray Discs there is little reason to have to keep to NTSC standards for internet uploads or PC viewing.

I'm sorry I've not been able to suggest more but other users here may have some additional ideas or solutions.

You could also try contacting Magix staff directly for a more informed opinion by going to the top of this page and click on the SUPPORT button, click on the MMS selection and then scroll to the bottom of that page where you will find a contact support option highlighted in blue. It may take up to a week to receive a reply from them.

Give them as much detail as you have supplied here. They tend not to visit this forum beyond giving news on new products.

Ray.

Thanks for all the help Ray! I will try that too

florian-l wrote on 12/2/2023, 2:22 PM

SOLUTION:

Go to settings and Change video mode to Alterante mode 2 (Video Mixing Renderer 9). With that MVD does not overload the RAM and crash all the time.

Also turn of hardware acceleration for exporting.

Hi

The issue you are having sounds like a memory leak with the RX6700T drivers.

A quick search on the Internet for a RX6700XT driver memory leak shows you are not alone with this issue, and would appear to relate to Adrenaline and the Visual C++ installation.

If the issue continues then, several posts indicate the issue is fixed by installing the latest 2015-2022 Visual C++ installation, available here.

Do note that you need to uninstall the existing installation of the Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable before re-installing from a fresh download.

Hi John,

thanks for the tip, would not have come to that conclusion.

Reinstalled C++, i will try if this fixes the issues. If not, i just finished an edit and export with the alternate settings and did not get over 4.6gb of Ram usage.
