MAGIX Video deluxe Plus(19.0.2.58) instable, crashes

mha wrote on 2/21/2021, 4:57 PM

Hi,

I'm running MAGIX Video deluxe Plus (19.0.2.58) on a Samungs Laptop (i7-3537U, 4GB, plenty of SSD space available, W10Pro-19042.804) for 3 years now. MEP had the occasional crash but worked most of the time. Now it seems it has gotten worse.

1. Why can't I upload crash logs?

2021/02/20 17:18:05 [INFO]    [UserAction]: Load project 2021-02-20a_Crash_10022020_151340.MVP
2021/02/20 17:19:32 [FATAL]   [Maintenance]: Crash Upload: returned hr=0x0, Server response is '4'.

2. Crash during editing (mainly cut scenes) . MEP freezes, needs to be killed though task manager.

Error in module "KERNELBASE.dll" (Load address: 0x00007FFBE3F00000) to address 0x00007FFBE3F2D759 (Exception 0xe06d7363 "")

3. Crash on exporting MP4 video. MEP freezes, needs to be killed though task manager.

4. Not able to exit MEP with message "... is busy". Needs to be killed though task manager.

found hint to delete MxNewsfeed.xml. Why was this not fixed a long time ago.

5. Crash with Runtime error r6025 in Visual C++

Needless to say I am not very impressed. I'm happy to share more info, .dmp files, the various crash logs, and other data MEP itself rejected to upload.

Hi Michael.

I'm not trying to be detrimental here and trying to be realistic, but I'm surprised you got MEP 2020 to work at all if your system is only using a two core CPU with 4GB of ram. As that version of MEP can't use the Intel GPU of that chip it means everything is being done at a software level. Also the amount of ram you have means Windows has used at least half of that just running Windows. Ideally you should be looking at having at least 8GB or ram as your CPU's GPU can not be used. Having only two cores to work with probably means the laptop is close to overheating all the time.

I assume that maybe one cause is if the projects are either getting larger now or using higher resolution clips that the system is just struggling to keep up with the demands of the program.

Your message 4. is a clear sign of not enough ram and 3. of the CPU struggling.

I suggest you open your task manager and see what resources are being used up just opening MEP.

Ray.

Hi

In addition to @CubeAce comments which I agree with:-

Is this a Samsung NP900X3E Laptop with a 256GB SSD drive?

When did you upgrade to Windows 10 20H2 (build 19042.804) ?

How much free space, in GB, is there on the SSD drive?

What video format, resolution and encoding format are you editing?

Yes, it is exactly the NP900X3E. About 100GB free space. I am mainly editing DJI Spark footage (1920x1080, 29.97fps, MP4) exporting the same format.

Memory consumption as per task manger is usually between 500 to 800MB, CPU peaks while editing mostly below 80%, while encoding lower than that. I don't think it's a resource problem.

I just recently updated to the latest version (OS version as stated in my first post) of Windows.

Are you sure MEP is not using the core I7 graphics? It says it is using hw encoding.

Hi Ray,

No changes to project size or resolution. It's 2-4 minute 1920x1080 projects. See my previous post about resource indicators as per task manager. CPU and RAM not plenty I know but both less than 80% utilization rate.

3.: Why should crashing ever be a valid response to utilizing all of the CPU can give? It should just take the time it requires. Don't you agree?

4.: was answered by one of the german Magix dudes here. This is a result of a bad news feed xml file residing in one of he MEP folders. Nothing to do with memory. A genuine MEP bug.

Please check my question about hw encoding in my previous post. You sure?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi

Thanks for the information, I did forget to ask if there are any effects eg sharpening, colour adjustments etc .

Free space appears to be OK,.

. . . . Memory consumption as per task manger is usually between 500 to 800MB . . . .

Is this total or just MEPs usage memory usage - it does appear to be on the low side for Windows 10 20H2 - where I would expect 1.5 - 2GB of usage for Windows alone.

. . . . Are you sure MEP is not using the core I7 graphics? It says it is using hw encoding.. . . .

It could be as the processor actually has a generation 4 integrated GPU the HD4000 which is supported.

The Runtime error R6025 in Visual C++ error message could mean the Visual C++ Redistributable installation is also corrupted.

In Windows settings, Apps you may have multiple versions of these both x86 and x64 versions. Make a note of which versions are installed and then download new installers from here and re-install the Visual C++ distributions start with the oldest version you have installed to the newest.

There is no guarantee the above will cure the crashing as, as Ray suspects, the laptop is being pushed quite hard and could be an overheating issue - either the processor, RAM or both which would cause some of the crashes you have been getting - laptop cooling is relatively poor compared to a PC and has been a perennial problem with laptops when pushed really hard, one particular brand was notorious for this fortunately they were taken over by another manufacturer.

Hello and welcome to Magix Forum.

The various error issues discussed could also be resolved by reading the guide here

Have you updated the latest chipset and intel HD graphics drivers by going to Samsung support and download the latest drivers?

Hi John, Ray,

Thanks for your support.

Yes, memory consumption was for MEP alone and thanks for confirming hw encoding which I was sure about as I once clocked exporting a project with and without hw encoding selected. It makes a noticeable difference. I'll do what you recommended about Visual C++ runtime installations. In fact I found the link Project-X posted and reinstalled .Net3.5 and the latest version of VC++ runtime. I'll update all of them.

I do understand Ray's point about overheating. Some time ago I ran a prime numbers generator test program which puts maximum stress on all cores. No failures running at 175F for minutes. MEP usually runs the CPU at lower utilization. Openhwmonitor says both cores are running peak around 160F.

The processor temp, of 71°C (160°F) with MEP could be OK, however at 80+°C it could potentially push the CPU into the instability region. These temperatures, in addition to the normal RAM operating temperatures of about 40C, could be bad for the RAM if it is getting too hot inside the casing.

As John has mentioned about the extreme heat on CPU and ram, a laptop cooler pad would be ideal to combat and help lower said temperatures and reduce crashes.

I had an old laptop many years ago which got very hot and sat it on two ice pack freezer blocks, but now you have coolers.

Hi,

Update: as I couldn't get everything back to running stable I tried reinstalling. Only to run into the same set of problems and in addition to say hello to an old friend I described here: https://www.magix.info/us/forum/updatec-to-mep2020-hitfilm-movie-essentials-not-usable--1231005/

Giving up is no option so I tried one tip I think I read about in this forum even if it was given for a unrelated problem. Getting rid of all Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Redistributables and installing a new consistent set, e.g. found as bundled installers here:Link removed by Moderator

So far both my instability and plug-in problems are gone. Knock on wood.

Thanks to y'all for sharing thoughts and tips.
