MAGIX Video Deluxe MX Plus has stopped working.

applepip2001 wrote on 12/8/2011, 6:57 AM

Hi

I was using Magix Movie Edit Pro, a few days ago with no problems. Yesterday, I tried to start the program and got hit with the message 'MAGIX Video Deluxe MX Plus has stopped working'. A few moments later Windows tells me due to an error, Magix stopped working and am given a Close button to click.

I have run a repair install, which claimed to have repaired my install, but upon trying Magix again, had the exact same error. I downloaded and installed update 11.0.3.0 which also made no difference. I have uninstalled Magix. Deleted it's program folder and it's ProgramData folder, to make sure all it's previous settings are removed, and reinstalled it from scratch. Still having the exact same problem.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, dues anyone know a solution to it.

I have a deadline for something that needs to be finished for Monday (4 days time). If I can't get Magix working, I'm probably going to have to buy some different video editing software in the next couple of days, so I've got a fighting chance of completing my edit by Monday.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreacated,

Phil

Hi,

I think in your place, as my next step I'd use Revo Uninstaller, free from here

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

to thoroughly remove all traces of MEP and then re-install from a freshly booted PC.

Please let me know if that helps. We're just users like you, and feedback is appreciated.

Thanks for the advice,

It got me thinking back along the same lines as yourself, that although I'd uninstalled and deleted some data folders, that somewhere there must still be some corrupt / wrong settings that are preventing the program from working. I decided to have another good look around to see if there was anything I'd missed. Eventually, I found another folder with Magix files in:

C:\Users\MY_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Movie_Edit_Pro_MX_Premium

I found the file Videodeluxe.ini (a file I have also seen in other locations) and decided to delete it.

Upon starting Movie Edit Pro again, it started up with no problem and even created a new Videodeluxe.ini (assumadly with default settings restored) to replace the one I'd deleted :-)

Once again, thanks for the advice, it's saved me from missing a deadline.

Phil

I had the same problem with Magix Video Pro 3 and found the corresponding .ini file and deleted it.

That cured it, after wasting half a day. Magix should automaticall have the repair function delete all .ini files. Bad programming IMHO!!! :(

Thanks for the tip, Phil!

Hi

. . . . Magix should automaticall have the repair function . . .

They do, however occassionally it does fails if the ini file itself is corrupt at which point you have to delete the ini file.

The fix is under File, Settings, Reset program settings to default and works in the majority of cases.

Did you try this?

Either way, pleased you are up and running and I echo Terry's thanks for the feedback.

And conversely sometimes deleting the ini doesn't fix a problem but resetting the defaults does, as in my case with the embeded Xara3d Titles and colour correction not working.
