Not sure I can give you a definite answer, but before you reinstalled did you completely uninstall the previous version?  If not, it is highly probable that some part of the corrupted installation was not removed and has interfered with the new one.

The best way to ensure removal and to be pretty sure any new installation is totally unaffected by any previous one is to either find and download the free MAGIX removal tool (via the web site, though I've never found it easy to find) or download, install and run the (free or paid for) Revo Uninstaller in its Advanced or Deep Clean mode.

Once removal is complete, reboot your computer and try to reinstall.

Did you change your sound card or driver? or install any other program that installs it's own drivers? (Sound/Video)

It happened to me once and I found out it was a sound card driver problem that would not allow my magix program to work....Just a suggestion.

I recently started having the same problem.  Runtime error ...abnormal program termination.  Loaded it on my newer Windows 7 laptop, same problem. My other post earlier was about video playback always starting from zero wherever I put the cursor, now it doesn't work at all.  And my Music Maker Deluxe 12 is crashing everytime I try to use it.   I paid good money for these programs, I am not happy.

Hi

@West

Which version of MEP are you using?

Did you install any new software before MEP started failing?

If it was working and now fails with runtime errors it is more likely that there has been a Windows update which has caused the problem or some other software eg Anti virus is affecting the program.

This is more likely as MMM is also crashing

. . . . I paid good money for these programs, I am not happy. . . . .

How long ago? - MMM 12 is 7 versions (and 7 years) out of date and may be liable to run into problems with Windows 7.

@ Bronxer

The same question applies - Did you install any new software before MEP started failing?
