Magix shuts down when switching to Edit mode.

I have Magix 8.0.5 and I'm trying to use it for the first time and I find it will not go into Edit mode.

Apparently it opens in 'Record' mode and allows me to import a file and set start and end for the segment i want to cut out - had me thinking it was already for action because of that - but I can't do any more and I reasoned that  I need to switch to that 'Edit' mode I see there.

So I click it and I briefly see an edit screen - very briefly but enough to know it has popped up - and then all is shut down.  Not all the computer. All the Magix. All gone without a trace.

I reinstalled and it's no different.

It used to run alright I've been assured. My son's machine. He apparently used to frequently use it to take excerpts from videos of his favourite bands and singers.

Have I broke it somehow?  Or am not using it correctly? Or there's a known bug?  Or none of the above but some good advice available?

I don't really need Magix if there's something else. I just want to extract portions from some mp4 files and such and put together an instructional video and my son said use Magix on his machine while he's away..

Hi,

I'm not clear what product you mean by 'Magix 8.0.5'. But have you tried resetting the program to its default settings?
