Magix Rescue your VHS video tapes

casspir_zd5 wrote on 6/24/2013, 9:15 AM

After a lot of agro I have finally transferred my VHS collection of 5o tapes to a Magix folder in Video's on my desktop. The folder contains a recording icon and another ison shape like a bulb.

When I click onto the 'bulb' icon it takes me back to the Magix program where I am able to playback and carry out editing.

I am more concerned with the icon titled recording as when I click this it shows MEPG and I am able to playback my movie on the Laptop Windows Media Player.

a. Now I want help: How do I transfe/burnr this MPEG to a rewritable DVD disc?

b. What size disc do I need as the disc's I have are #4.7GB running time is 120 min, but some movies are much longer than that ?

c. Can I transfer each individual fold which contains 1 full lenght movie to a USB flash stick and playback by inserting the flash stick into the TV USB socket?

Hi,

Better for you to use a USB key since prices drop you can use 4 GIG 8 and 16 gig to place your movies on. Near all HD TV have and input USB just insert the key and probably automatic detection, follow instruction on the screen. Read the TV manual. Popular format is MP4. size 1280x 720 or 1920 x 1080 for full HD. Also you can use a 64GIG hard drive to copy your file as backup and use it to play on your TV. (less than 80$).

DVD disk are available in 2 size 4,7 GIG and doublelayer 9 GIG you can use a Blu-Ray disk 25 GIG but you need a Blu-Ray burner and a B-R player.

You save time using USB also safer and long durability.

YR

Hi

. . . How do I transfe/burnr this MPEG to a rewritable DVD disc? . . .

You do not say which version of RYVT you are using however this topic is covered in the installed pdf manual.

. . . . What size disc do I need as the disc's I have are #4.7GB running time is 120 min, but some movies are much longer than that ? . . .

Dual layer discs are available (~4hrs recording time) - however your burner must support these, depending on how much longer than the120 mins ideos are you may be able to get away with more compression - again this is covered in the manual

. . .  Can I transfer each individual fold which contains 1 full lenght movie to a USB flash stick and playback by inserting the flash stick into the TV USB socket? . . .

Yes providing they are in a format the TV can play - also do not expect HD quality (or even standard DVD quality) from digitised video tapes - there resolution is low compared to HD and DVD

After all this effort and time you have put in getting the videos into the computer it would be very wise to ensure you have a good backup of all the digitised videos eg copy them to an external hard drive and keep it stored safely - USB sticks are not reliable enough for permanent storage of data.

I go a little overboard (!!) and store my backups across multiple external hard drives for security - some of the video material I have shot is not easily replaced.
