Magix Music maker premium 2015 and windows 10

ImSean wrote on 12/12/2015, 8:37 PM

First let me start off with this forum, I wish there was a way to filter out some of the post....it's hard to go through page after page when most of the post are foreign and hard to understand.

OK, on to MMM2015.

After I updated windows from windows 7 to 10 MMM2015 is all messed up now. The tracks in the arranger do not show the correct timing as the cursor follows. The Vita solo instruments no longer work now. It keeps asking me for an activation yet when I enter it, it brings me to a Non-USA website. I have been using the vita solo instruments for years and never had a problem except with the Acoustic piano but now that works fine but I cannot access any of the vita solo instruments.

Tech support said If I installed windows 10 after installing MMM 2015, then windows 10 deleted important register keys needed to use MMM 2015 and are not retrieveable! Great!

So I was told to uninstall and reinstall. I followed the directions to the last word and not only do I have the same problem but now the interface is a mess and the arranger is way off from the timing.

I dont know whatelse to do...tried everything I know about this program and windows.

Anyone else having the same issue?

I decided to upgrade to MMM2016 Premium, but I did a complete uninstall of any previous versions. Installed MMM2016 but my issues continued, not only that, they got worse. Even after creating new projects....They dont save properly! If you try to open up the project, it crashes....If you try again, a pop up tells you that you are missing a _001 file. Whiich is a sound file that should have been saved in the Documents/Magic/MMM2016/Audio folder! But it's not there! So your soundpool arrangements in the arranger, go missing. Just more bugs to an endless frustrating issue! What bites, is, I really like the interface of this program....but the Bugs....can go to hell!

i bought MMM2015P and it works fine with windows 10 on my end, not a single issue

2015 Premium also works fine for me, but not 2016 Live with the latest patch; Live and Premium are the same build - only the addons are different. I have not yet had the problems that Sean has had, but I have had plenty of others to conclude that there is something drastically wrong with this version/patch.

I installed MMM 2016 trial on my system using win 10.  Main problem was it was a CPU hog (constantly slow to build screens etc or freezing). After days of frustration I finally found by uninstalling the MMM SQl server it now responds reasonably well. There are still issues like not finding files for instruments that worked yesterday?. I totally  Love the inteface but there are still program issues. Hope they work it out. I don't know of any other programs that are so user friendly.

Hi

. . . . 2015 Premium also works fine for me, but not 2016 Live with the latest patch; Live and Premium are the same build . . . .

This intertestting because I am not having any problems with 2016 Live with the latest patch on my laptop.  I am beginning to suspect that the problem may be due to graphical display problems with the grahics card of the computer.  My laptop is using the Intel HD4600.

The only problem I have is a messed up Vita2 settings config file so cannot load Vita 2 synth.

@ jim.bilodeau

Do you mean you have uninstalled the Firebird server Magix instance ?

If so are you able to save your projects and reload them?

@John EB,

To make a liar out of me, today the audio recording transport control buttons work fine, and pressing the spacebar stops the recording. The other day it didn't for an audio recording, but did for a midi recording. Maybe there was some conflict in the memory of the computer after opening and closing programs like MEP, VPX7, etc.

However, opening a new instrument is very long, unlike 2015 Premium in which it took about a third of the time. Have you found this also?

The playback range bar reaction is strange. In 2 sessions today, double-clicking would not extend the playback range over the full song. And then clicking in an area beyond the range gave me 2 blue markers that seem to do nothing except show where the range should move to. If I move the markers manually to the right and then left click in the blank area to the left, the blue marker shows up. But, in the second session, after recording playing with some features like jump markers, the playback range bar now behaves as it should. See the image.

Like 2015, normalize after recording does nothing. Normalize after recording works, but the waveform does not change; it should expand. Editing externally in Music Editor 3, normalize, the waveform expands properly and comes back into MMM ok. Any idea why normalize after recording and waveform expansion don't happen in MMM?

I still have the object disappearing momentarily when dragging downwards from 1 track to a couple of tracks downwards. This doesn't happen when dragging upwards, nor does it happen in MMM2015. My display card is AMD (ATI) Radeon HD 5700 Series; drivers up to date or close to it.

Hi

@ John EB

. . . . To make a liar out of me, today the audio recording transport control buttons work fine, and pressing the spacebar stops the recording . . . .

That's computers for you

. . . . However, opening a new instrument is very long, unlike 2015 Premium in which it took about a third of the time. Have you found this also? . . .

No - these are the timings, in secs, I got for three different instuments on my laptop - MMM restarted in between testing each 3 times so that instrument  held in memory after closing the instruments dialog does not skew the times

Instrument MMM2015 MMM2016 Live
Revolta 2 4.5 4.5
Century Keys 3.48 3.6
Celtic Harp 3.0 4.5

The oddball instrument is the Celtic Harp taking 50% longer in MMM2016 Live

. . . . The playback range bar reaction is strange . . . .

Mine behaves normally except for those blue markers - which appear and behave oddly.  I can find no reference in the manual as to what they are, and they disappear when you do anything eg start playback etc.

. . . . I still have the object disappearing momentarily when dragging downwards from 1 track to a couple of tracks downwards. This doesn't happen when dragging upwards, nor does it happen in MMM2015. . . . .

This plus some of the other 'graphical issues' are what makes me think there is an issue with the display updating correctly.  I have seen something similar to this in MEP where the screen updating randomly took several seconds before it was updated - this was fixed by an update.

Hi,

@John EB,

How do you so accurately time things?

As I indicated in another posting, I am getting the following:

Selecting instruments from the list once the list is open:
Vita Acoustic piano - 38s vs 12s in 2015 Premium
New track, Vita Acoutic guitar chords - 38s
New track, Celtic harp Cathedral - 12s
New track, Revolta 2 Carnival - 35s vs 12s in 2015 Premium
New track, Revolta 2 Digibong - 36s
New track, DN e1 Arpeggio - 27s
All of these take less than half of that time in 2015 Premium.

I only have Samplitude Music Studio 2014 on the portable and I noticed that instrument load times were closer to your, so there must be something wrong with my computer.

Are you now using W10, or did you revert back to W7?

I am hoping for an update soon. It seems that there are many complaints about the latest patch.

Hi John CB

. . . . How do you so accurately time things . . . .

They are the average of 3 seperate timings to load an instument + fast reactions!!!

. . . . . so there must be something wrong with my computer. . . . Are you now using W10, or did you revert back to W7? . . . .

As I have said below I think this may be a graphics issue that is slowing everything down.

I am using Windows 10 on my main computer and 2 laptops (mine and my wifes). After getting the upgrade process sorted and reinstalling all Magix software with help from Magix support - hence the tutorial - I would not go back - Win 10 is faster and stable than 7 and 8.  The only annoying thing with 10 is there is no notification that updates are available - they just download themselves and install at what appears to be a random time - the only indication I get is when certain software suddenly slows down dramatically or you log off.

I still have Win 7 on my old PC which now acts as a server and for the rare time I need a program that will not run on Win 10.

. . . . I am hoping for an update soon. It seems that there are many complaints about the latest patch. . . . .

I presume you mean the Windows 10 version 1511 November update - I have had no problems with this on 2 of the 3 computers.

The only issue I had was with it trying to update the graphics drivers to the same version that was already on the PC and it was failing and ended up with a mixture of drivers which 'messed' up the display icons - this was most apparent with Firefox.

Microsoft have a small tool available so you can stop it trying install an update - the old Win 8 and earler  update authorisation / install tool no longer exists, except in the Professional and higher versions of Win 10.

@John EB,

Thanks for the reply.

With the times that I was getting, I rounded down by a second to be generous to Magix.

I'm still on W10 waiting for the dust to settle.

The update I'm hoping for is MMM2016 Live/Premium.

I have had problems with MMM 2016 Premium it has been very slow, but the solution for me was to reinstall windows 10. Now everything works as it should :-)

Cheers Music friends :-)
