Magix Music Maker: corrupted .mmm file after crash.

Hi there.

First of all - sorry for my english, it's not my first language.

Now, Magix Music Maker 2013 crashed, and now the .mmm file seems to be corrupted, it cannot be loaded and the program while loading says "cannot open file".

Unfortunatly there is no back up file for this project, I looked very thoroughly, even though there are back up files for some random other projects (but not for all).

There is no "crash" folder in "user data", and I checked any other folder named "crash" associated with MAGIX that I could find - no files inside each of them.

I also heard, that it may work, when you import the .mmm file via Music Maker File Manager, however File Manager in my version (2013) apparently can only import sound/video/photo files.

I haven't restarted my computer since it happend, because I figured that maybe this file is still somewhere saved as a something like "session" file, but that's just a wild guess.

Maybe restarting computer would help? Like clearing cache? I don't know anymore. I really want to recover this project, it took me a lot of time. :P

Since this is my first post here, I'm not sure what other information I'm supposed to post, so just let me know what I missed.

Thanks a lot! :D

Do not worry your English is better than mine please also add Windows version it may be helpful for someone to guide you properly.

You have done a nice job by doing what you can do unfortunately you did not locate project file or crash file.

It is also wise not do delete history/cookies or else unless your problem is solved.

In my experience to save backup files we have to set the timing ourselves check your version if you did not already. Next normally Magix will save crash report as you said in some case if something went wrong Magix will not save crash file. I have read this kind of question before.

How to locate file? whatever the title of your project as per your windows version search for that. Open Program settings and check Folder tab, you will know the path where various folders are. It may help you to know the exact location.

I do not think we can use File Manger to open Project file (mmm). On the web search "How to open windows(your windows version)event viewer". In event viewer Windows Log/Application you can at least find what caused the crash.

Thanks for answer.

I have located the project file, in fact I never lost it :D It's just that Music Maker can't open it.

I couldn't however locate the back up file, and I think it just never existed like for many other projects, even though the program is set to create back up files.

I looked for it pretty much everywhere, started with the folder in which were some back up files for other projects, then moved on, checked even in all the weird places, swept through every possible location, every Magix related folder, of course I also used windows search tool, like it was suggested in other threads that concerned problems like mine, and it looks like the back up file for this particular project just doesn't exist. I don't know why is that the case, in fact, there are back ups for only about 10% of all my projects, and they seem pretty random.

I hoped, that maybe there are ways to sort of "create" the back up, you know, somehow "pull it out" of the program's or windows' memory, but I don't think that is possible now, after this time.

So right now I'm trying to find a way to repair the corrupted project file. Maybe there is a way to edit this file outside of Music Maker?

I already started to recreate this project, but I'm still determined to find a solution these kinds of incidents, should they occur again in future. Thanks :D

If unexpectedly Music Maker crash in that rare case I do not think it save backup file. Also the project file (mmm) might get corrupt in the process.

Any way I like your determination that you are willing to find a solution.

I have just checked my older version of Music Maker (16 Premium) this is how we can set backup file.

When Music Maker is opened click on "Y" key or open Program settings via File/Settings/Program settings (Y).

Under General Tab look for SAVE ARRANGEMENT BACKUP AUTOMATICALLY we can add minutes. Please refer screen shot. I have marked in red.
