Magix Music Maker ads - No Connect or other extension/program evident

Kris-Roberson wrote on 3/19/2020, 8:15 AM

Please make it stop!

I have been through every thread I am able to locate about the seriously annoying pop-up ads from Magix. I have attached a screen shot of my add/remove programs.

As you can see there is nothing called Connect or any other app that seems to be causing the pop-ups.

In one thread I saw as reply, "Then how are you getting the pop-up ads?" That is indeed the question.

I want the ads gone or I will be forced to seek other editing and creation software having wasted my money on Magix.

PLEASE Make it STOP!

Hi Kris.

When you run MEP look for an almost circle with a tick in it on the task bar. Open it and go to the info channels button. In there you will see a list with enabled against each entry. Click on every single one to disable it. I don't get any popups at all.

The program is called Update Notifier.

Do not try to disable or delete it. That may cause problems further down the line.

Ray.

Sorry to seem din, but what does MEP represent?

Sorry, it just clicked. MEP Movie edit pro. Thanks again.

Unfortunately, the ads I see are not from MEP, but from Music Maker.

Also, I do not see an icon as you have mentioned in either Movie edit or in Music maker.

@Kris-Roberson

The ads are from Magix, not Music Maker.

The icon is in the hidden icons system tray, not in a program. Go to the bottom of your screen - task bar, right side, first icon is a ^ click on it to open the hidden icons system tray. Look for Magix Connect or something like that and click on it. Click on Info channels and disable everything that you want.

Alternatively, look back in your apps for Connect instead of Magix Connect and remove it. There may be a newer version called Update Notifier or something like that. Look for it.

Thank you for the instructions.

I was able to locate the update notifier. In there I saw QMxNetworkSync. From other research I saw that this may be the culprit.

I've disabled this function and will see if it works. I can return here if it still pops up and disable the others until it stops.

Thank you for your help!

I removed all extraneous Magix programs, and have nothing showing in the tray, but MEP is still giving me pop-up ads when my computer starts. I could maybe live with an ad when I open the program, but running an update check, replete with ads, at startup, without a way to switch it off, is in the realm of malware. They've probably put something in Windows task scheduler, which, for me, is not an easy thing to hunt down. Magix, wake up -- this is unacceptable.

Unlike some programs from other manufacturers which also have news/ad pop-ups that are permanently intrusive, Magix do offer the ability to turn off the news pop-up - check the Hide news option in the Progam Settings, System tab.

No need to uninstall Magix.

There is another method. It may be for older versions. Mine is 2016.

From the desktop use <control-alt-delete>, pick <Task Manager>, under the tab <Process> find (something like, I don't see it any more because I removed it) <Updater...>, right click <properties>. In this version it should say <QMxNetworkSync.exe>. Click <End Task>. Close the <Task Manager>.

Open <Windows Explorer>, got <C:\Program Files\Common Files\MAGIX Services\Update Notifier>, and delete <QMxNetworkSync.exe>, reboot the computer.

In my version, I get no more ads. When I run <MAGIX Movie Maker> so far it has not complained.

I hope not. Because if it does I will, as others have indicated on this Forum, Uninstall it. No flame war intended. Simple dissatisfaction with MAGIX.

Hope this helps a few of annoyed customers.
