Hi Alisdair and welcome to the Community,

You haven't given much information for anyone to help. I have no trouble importing a midi file or creating one.

I can't see your screen so I don't know what you did.

What is the source of the midi file? How are you trying to import it? Did you try a simple drag and drop using Windows Explorer?

Are you saying that under File in the top menu you see no option to import or export? Give us a screen shot.

What do you see in the bottom window of the MMM screen? Soundpools? Then File Browser? Did you try opening File Browser, going to your midi file and opening it?

Did you try loading any Soundpools into the Arranger? Some of the Soundpools are midi files and you can search for these. Did you try loading one?

Did you download and install all of the Free download add-ons?

Once you have a midi file loaded you will need to assign an instrument to play it. If you don't know how, then read the first part of the manual under the heading "Quick Start."

Hi Alasdair,

Try copying your midi file to a folder. It may not work from the desktop.

Did you simply try dragging and dropping the midi file onto a track?

To load music files, wav, ogg, tak, mid, etc., use the File Browser in the Media Pool at the bottom of the screen. See below.

For addons, go to the top menu, Help, Update programs/Upgrade functions, Download free synthesizer and Sound packages..

I presume that you purchased the program and are not using the trial version, otherwise there is nothing to download.

There is also a button for this on the startup screen:

Hi Alasdair,

See the Magix UK site for the various programs. See the details of each for what is included and look at the tutorials to get a better feel as to what the programs can do. The best is Premium. There are limitations with the trial version; you are limited to 30 days, I believe, and you don't get everything like all of the SoundPools, full 2015 version, Instruments, etc. Determine what you want to do then decide which version that you want. The basic version comes with Music Studio but basic has some limitations that you may quickly run into if you want to do a lot. If you just want to play around with sound loops and maybe record some of your own music, then basic is ok, otherwise it's best to go with Premium. I learned that when I started.

Note: Music Maker is limited to recording on one track at a time; Music Studio allows limited multi-track recording; Samplitude Music Studio has more. The latter two do not come with much in the way of SoundPools.

See this message and the quick video that I did.
