Magix movie studip 2024 super slow on a killer machine

Hi guys I have been using magix since 2011. When i installed this this first time i found the performance very choppy and laggy. Its like i have to wait for it all the time and i dont get it. My pc is quite new I9 processor, 64 GB ram, SSD harddisc's and 4080 12 gb graphics card but making videos is simply not fun in this version. Har anyone tried the same. I have tried reinstall and using my old version (2022) and thats still super fast but the new one just is slow as .... :) Even tried without a video just adding a title, same result super choppy, after adding title have to wait 5-10 seconds to play it, cant stop it midway since it is super slow. Also a bonus question, one of my favorite titles seems to be screwed, its called blue puzzle from simple titles pack, its like the text is mis-aligned. Tried to remove all local store content but it keeps being misaligned. I really like that title but quite usuless when half the text is unreadable. Hope you guys have some suggestions, performace on the 2024 is so bad i really considering buying something else. No point in making videoes if you have to wait all the time for the program.

Hi

Answering your questions in reverse order:

I do not have the 'Blue Puzzle template from the Simple Things pack, however several users have found a few issues with other titles having positioning, or alignment, or font errors.

As a work around you can load the template fix/modify it including changing text colours, Size, Position & Rotation etc to how you need it and the right click and save as a custom template which will then appear under 'My Own' in the title templates as shown below.

. . . .  i found the performance very choppy and laggy. Its like i have to wait for it all the time and i dont get it. My pc is quite new I9 processor, 64 GB ram, SSD harddisc's and 4080 12 gb graphics card  . . . .

I work with 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 video in MMS 2024 with my PC or laptop - specs are in my Signature - and have few problems with playback being choppy, usually when a CPU intensive effect eg Brightness/Contrast, or multiple video collages,

However:

  1. If the intel CPU has an integrated GPU then is it avalable for use, ie does it appear in the Program Settings, Device options, Import, Processing and Export options, if it is not available then it needs activating in the BIOS, how you do this depends on the motherboardmake/model.

  2. The Intel iGPU if present, and RTX 4080 drivers are not up to date the current versions are 31.0.101.3790/31.0.101.2114 and for the Game Ready Driver 546.33 (31.0.15.4633) respectively.

  3. Which Device options mentioned in item 1 work best for you depend on the source video resolution, frame rate and encoding format combined with effects applied - some are processed by the CPU others by the GPU.

  4. Try turning on the Blue lightning symbol bottom right of the preview monitor - this does reduce the display resolution and framerate for previewing.

  5. If your videos are 4K or higher try using Proxy files, the option is in the Project settings.

Note: for points 4 and 5 I have not found these to be necessary for my PC or laptop except with some complex timelines.

Something fundamentally wrong somewhere; an i9 with a 4080 should go like a rocket.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@AAProds

Hi Al.

It depends.

There are currently 11 i9 processors that do not have an inboard graphics chip. Even if it has an inboard graphics chip it may not be enabled in the bios. If it is a ninth generation chip then the 4080 which has a PCIe gen four lane capacity will be coupled to a PCIe gen 3 motherboard with DDR 4 ram. If it is newer how many NVMe drive slots does the motherboard have and use? What exactly are the SSDs that are running?

Depending on the make of card there may even be a bios update for it because after a long search I found the 12GB 4080 was relaunched as the 4070 Ti. That would be manufacturer dependant though.

Is it a Desktop or laptop?

This may be another set of twenty questions before getting to a suitable solution or john's suggestions may make things better.

Ray.

A routine that I do has already helped me get rid of not only slowdowns but also crashes (AND IT WAS NOT DUE TO LACK OF MEMORY) is to eliminate the temporary folder. Before starting work, I systematically do this!
