Magix movie edit pro premium 2020

Roy-Alexander wrote on 4/5/2021, 3:42 AM

Hi. I am using Movie edit pro premium 2020. and it's a good programme when it works. For days on end I can proceed making a DVD or a Blu-ray video. However after this good run, for days on end the programme crashes or freezes every few minutes and working with it becomes impossible. then all of a sudden it starts working perfectly again. At first I thought it might be the new graphics card I had put in by an experienced friend. But Adobe CS6 on the same PC works perfectly with the same ghraphics card. I am 94 tears old and no longer understand the modern jargon so if anyone can help me please use plain language. Thank you.

Hi Roy,

Since we obviously cannot see your computer, it is really very difficult for we fellow-users to diagnose what the problem might be!

I see from other posts you have made that you seem to be still running Win 7, 64 bit. Is that correct? Can you also tell us a little more about the actual hardware you have? This post will show you the sort of information which is invaluable in attempting to diagnose problems! A relatively easy method of finding that info is to download and install the free Speccy, let it analyse your system and then post the results of the Summary view here.

Also, please tell us about the format of the video files that are causing MEP to freeze or crash. Another very useful utility for this is the free MediaInfo. Once downloaded and installed, point it to one of these problem files and copy and paste here the results of the Text view.

Hi Roy.

First congratulations on just surviving for so long let alone trying to get to grips with more modern program such as Movie edit Pro.

Second. Unfortunately CS6, which I also run, does not need anywhere near the computational power that Movie Edit Pro does so just because CS6 works is no real indication that MEP should. (We refer to Movie Edit Pro just as MEP). If you are seeing both video and hearing audio then I assume that the graphics card is probably doing its job. I say this because if you are producing Blu-ray videos you are not really pushing the resolution limits that MEP can handle.

However, if you are adding any effects or if you are using a mobile phone to produce your video footage this could make it harder for MEP to work on your machine.

So if you could tell us a bit more about your workflow such as how do you produce your video clips to use and what do you do when editing videos to produce a Blu-ray disc (Tell us about the transitions or effects you may use) we may be able to advise more. Also if you can tell us a bit about your machine you use to edit on. Such as the processor type and model number and the graphics card you now use, that could also be useful in helping us.

Having said all of that, have you set up MEP to use proxy files? and if you have, have you accidentally turned off the little blue lightning symbol?

Ray.

Thanks Ray. I can't answer most of your queries and I'll wait for my friend to come over soon and find the answers you want. All I can say is that I use a Panasonic HD cam corder model HC-X920 which uses an SD card and supplies AVCHD video shots. I use these on the timeline plus a load of JPEG stills. I use plenty of cross fades and titles. I also have the programme make proxy files I also use the ProDad stabiliser for some shots. The PC I use is for editing only. I have other PC's for other work This one I am using now is for general internet work. Another one I use solely for transferring VHS cassettes to digital DVD's. I also have a machine from China that coverts 8mm. films to HD videos. I'll contact you again when I can submit details of the PC's equipment. Thanks for your interest and stay safe. BTW MEP is at the moment working perfectly for the last three days Hope it stays that way. Roy

Hi Roy.

There is no rush and thank you for the information on your camcorder of which I looked up the specs for here.

I can only identify one possible problem and that is if any of your recordings were made using the 5.1 surround sound capabilities of the camcorder. It is possible, depending on the codec used for the 5.1 channel recording, that MEP is seeing it incorrectly and causing playback problems. It may not be the problem though so something to look at for possible problems as earlier codecs for 5.1 sound encoding has now been withdrawn from most editing packages and the files may need converting to another video format before they can be used.

The only other thing I can think of is do you also use the 3D capability of the camera? Is it possible you tried to mix file types?

At this point I think everything on your machine for editing is probably fine but there may be a problem with some of your Camcorder files if they were recorded in the 5.1 surround sound format.

Of that I don't have any personal experience but John EB, one of the forum moderators does have experience with such recordings so he may be able to help out if that turns out to be the case.

@Roy-Alexander

Hi Roy.

I think you are at an impasse Roy. Movie Edit Pro 2020 or newer needs to run on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. It was not meant for Windows 7 and although you may get it to run it may not work well.

You have upgraded your PC as far as you can. I'm not even sure you can take advantage of the speeds of your additional SSD drives as the CPU is probably maxing out when Movie Edit Pro is working. While the C: drive possibly benefited from using an SSD it would have been better for you to stick to fast and larger disc drives for your project drive and Video file drive. Do not let either of the drives get to anywhere near full as the program may need to swap data about on the drives and needs room for the data to be moved about.

Movie Edit Pro cannot take advantage of your graphics card, and your processor has no GPU or even if that CPU had a GPU of that generation, it would not work.

Even though your system is probably having a hard time keeping up with demands, the last straw that is possibly tripping it up your system could be if you have any video clips using a 5.1 sound track in a video audio format no longer supported by the video codecs within Movie Edit Pro.

If you are finding errors on any SSD be careful as they tend to fail quickly with little warning once they start to show signs or errors. I have had two SSD failures myself this year.

Ray.

Please do not hijack another persons topic for an unrelated question and your problem is with a Vegas product not dealt with on this forum website. You need to bring this up on the Vegas forums, not here.

Hi Ray. Thank you or all your advice and information and it has been taken on board for possible future use. I am happy to tell you that after the alterations and repairs made by my friend, MEP is now working better than ever. It is fast and after several hours of heavy use of Fx and video clips etc. has never froze or crashed. I am keeping my fingers crossed, hoping it will continue this way. The only thing I would like to say is that I only bought MEP 2020, because Magix said that this version was compatable with Windows 7. Thanks again and stay safe

Hi Roy

. . . . The only thing I would like to say is that I only bought MEP 2020, because Magix said that this version was compatable with Windows 7. . . .

That is correct, MEP 2021 is the first version that the minimum version of Windows is 8. Windows 7 was end of life in Jan 2020, which is after the release of MEP 2020 which was , IIRC, the last quarter of 2019.

I have now installed a more powerful graphics card and MEP is working ok with no crashes. I have another problem however ( I think it's a problem). Whilst I was opening up MEP there was a power cut in somuch that my consumer unit was tripped. On returning the power MEP no longer opened and a message said the Installation file might be damaged and try re-installing. After re-installing MEP everthing works OK but here is the problem(more of a nuisance really) every time I want to open up MEP a panel is displayed telling me to activate and register immediately on line I click onto where indicated and MEP opens . I woud like to know if this is normal and if it isn't how do I remedy the situation. I thought,in my ignorance, that once I had clicked on the correct place I would have activated abd registered permanantly.
