Hi. I have a lot of short video movie clips (20+) to burn to a DVD but cannot find a suitable template, nor do I know how to edit or create one.Is there a store available at Magix with extra templates or where can I get them or instructions to create one? Any help appreciated.

Hi

. . . . cannot find a suitable template . . . .

Do you mean you cannot find a template to create a disc menu with multiple movies on it that can be played individually?

If so check out my tutorial here on creating multi movie DVD/BD projects.

There are several tutorials here in the Tutorials section and on Youtube about how to edit the DVD menus.

The Magix  'store' is catooh.com

Thank you for that. I notice you have seven movies. When I used the default one, it had eight and went on to another page. An earlier version of MEP had one called 16 (Max) which was a good start. Is there any way to get 20 or so onto one page? Is there a tutorial on how to create templtes from scratch? All the movies I have are short clips so I am in no danger of over filling a disc. Went to Catooh, by the way, and couldn't find anything there that looked suitable. Thanks again for your pointers.

Hi

. . . . . I notice you have seven movies . . .

That is because I used an actual project, with seven movies that I had previously done, to create the tutorial.

. . . . Is there a tutorial on how to create templtes from scratch? . . . .

No - you have to start with an existing menu template and modify that.

See these tutorials on how to modify a menu

How to add buttons

How to add new text

To have 20+ menu items you are going to have to arrange short, text only, links into 2 or more columns which may cause issues using the remote control of a disc player.

The norm is to have a maximum 9 menu items per page of menu to correspond with the 1 - 9 buttons on the remote control.

This is to avoid having to do, in your case, up to 20+ presses of the remote button to access the desired movie if it is one of the higher numbered ones.

Hi John,

Greetings from a grey and rainy West Sussex.

It's still a lot of clicking, but if the 20 were say 4 rows of 5 (a realistic arrangement?) couldn't you get it down to a max of 8? For example, to start worst case #20: click #1, #6, #11, #16, #17, #18, #19 and #20?

--------------------

That's one feature that I've long wanted to see in MEP: DIY templates with full flexibility, but I see no prospect of it. MEP is so marvellously versatile, allowing maximum creativity on the timeline, but IMO templates are a weak point.

Hi Terry

Greeting from a cold and sunny 'up North'

. . . . It's still a lot of clicking, but if the 20 were say 4 rows of 5 . . .

You could use this arrangement however, IMHO, that makes the text or image links more difficult to read/see when keeping them in the text safe zone of the menu.

. . . . DIY templates with full flexibility, but I see no prospect of it . . . .

IIRC - many years ago ( old forum days) a member had written a piece of software to create DVD menu templates and this 'disappeared' never to be seen again.

Depending on what the topic(s) of the 20+ movies are ie if they are able to be split into distinct groups it may be better to have multiple menus by group and edit these to achieve the correct number of menu items on each page.

Thank you all very much, you have all shown me the way. I did find a template under 'Compose' called 16 max which is a good start. Going back, I am unable to find it again but I'm sure it wil lturn up. I am looking forward to trying the Button Tutorial. I did find I can edit buttons, resize and create some links so will look at that as well. Another option, of course, is to accept the 16 and group the movies into pages that make sense.

I really appreciate all your help and will tackle the job again with this new found knowledge. Very happy I joined this Forum.

All the best!!

Hi John. Your info has been useful but I have two queries. When I click on the button directory to select a button, I cannot find the folder with the buttons you show. Is is called Buttons? Can't find such a folder on this PC so I tried using the default and it worked well. I can resize and squash the existing buttons and the new button works. The only thing I can't do is a standard button has a section as to what to do at the end, i.e. onto the next movie or go back to the menu. I can't find this option if I add a new button.

I did find a template with 16 items under 'Compose' somewhere but for the life of me cannot find it again. It had '16 Max' in the heading. Do you know where it should be?

When editing the default buttons, it leaves room for the preview graphic, even if you unckeck the preview graphic option. Do you now how to left justify the text in an existing button? Samewith Numbering, I would love to change the font size for the number.

Thanks again, you prompted me to discover more in this package. I do get a crash when saving.sometimes though.

Enjoy yourwelf. George

Hi, yet another inexplicable thing. When I created a project with every button a "new" button and tried to burn it, it said 0 bytes, in spite of the fact that I had 24 buttons ech linked to a movie in the project. I tried all the options under the Button graphic, but still zilch. Another one of life's mysteries.
