Hi,

Like you, I have my own video production business.  I currently own 3 video editing apps that I use because each includes some features that the others do not, but currently my primary editor is MEP.  If you consider switching to another product you need to understand that you will basically be starting your projects from scratch as the MEP files will not be read by any other editor.  Second, you will need to learn a new and often very different work flow which will cost you more time and money as you get over the learning curve.  So at least for now, let's leave changing editing apps of the table and focus on the problem at hand.

First thing you need to do is re-boot your system if you have not done so already.  Next, you need to send us all of your system specs (processor, OS and version, RAM, available HD space, etc.)  Also what other apps are you running when this happens?  If you are short of ram or HD space you should not be running anything else for now.  Did you recently install a patch or update?  By the way, when you get the windows message that sayes "videodeluxe has stopped working" is there any error code or does windows just go in to that useless "finding a solution screen" that never produces any results and you need to hit cancel to get it to stop?

After you have provided answers to all of the above, and you still cannot get MEP to run, I will give you the next steps that you can try which may include uninstalling and re-installing MEP but NOT with the windows uninstaller.  I will tell you which free one to use if it gets to that.

None of here work for Magix but there are many like me who have a lot of confidence in the product and a lot of knowledge fare beyond this specific product.  I suspect that either your application has been corrupted or you have a system issues, otherwise there would be many more users reporting similar problems with MEP 2013.

George

ps, of all the video editing apps I either own or have used or owned before, MEP has by far been the most stable.  Adobe was the least stable one that I bought in the past and I never use it anymore.

Hi

Two things to try, if you have not already done so, which could get you up and running:

1.  Run the installation program again and select the Repair option when offered.

2.  Using Windows Explorer search the C: drive for the file  videodeluxe.ini - include searching in Hidden files and Folders - you will find several versions - the one you want will be the largest in file size - delete or rename it.  MEP will create a new one on start up.

As George says we really do need the other information to be more specific in answering, and I agree with him regarding other video editors.

I have regularly had the problem of Magix suddenly giving this message upon trying to open it: "The program could not be started. It's possible that the installation folder is damaged. Reinstalling the program could remedy the problem. If the error occurs again, please contact support. Error code: -6." It just happened again immediately after upgrading to Win8.1. It had happened with Vista, Win7 and Win8, with MMEP17 and MMEP18. A complete reinstall fixes the problem, but I'm never sure how completely I should remove it--i.e., should I use Revo, and get rid of everything in addition to what the built-in uninstaller finds, or should I just use the Windows add/remove programs. If you get rid of everything, then you'll also get rid of whatever license key file or reg entry is on your pc, and the servers at Magix might think, uh oh, another activation from that serial number.

It's not that much of a hassle these days to reinstall, but I'm worried about too many activations, since many software companies seem to think that we are standing on the street corners giving their software away to all comers, and they make life difficult for those of us who deal with the travails of using Windows, and occasionally have to reinstall everything, not to mention having to fix errors like these. You can literally uninstall and reinstall Norton dozens of times--I know because I do it regularly every time I restore a complete image or use system restore, which is quite frequent--with no hassle whatsoever, but most companies are not as understanding. Some companies, such as Nuance, keep track of your uninstalls, so as long as you uninstall while you're on the internet, you'll be fine reinstalling. Adobe is a little bit more nightmarish. I've never had any problem with Sony's SoundForge or Vegas, since they use a machine ID, so their servers know that it's the same computer.

In this particular instance, I was lucky, since the repair option fixed it, although it did want me to re-register the program. The complication about doing a complete uninstall is that I also have Magix Audio Cleaning lab installed, and the programs that remove software aren't always able to differentiate between files that are peculiar only to one of that company's programs. I'm familiar with the Magix cleaning tool, but it also may not differentiate between different Magix programs, much like the Norton removal tool, which removes anything Symantec related, so I have not used it.

Strangely enough, after that upgrade to Win8.1, the Audio Cleaning Lab also wanted me to register again.

I would suggest standard troubleshooting procedures to keep the program running all the time: run sfc regularly on all versions of Windows since 98 (in an elevated command prompt, type "sfc /scannow" and hit enter), and if you have Win8, also run DISM.exe (in an elevated command prompt, type "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" and then hit enter). The other thing to do is keep good antimalware programs running. But no matter how diligent you are, things will happen, and the best insurance is to use a good imaging program, such as Macrium's, to make a complete system image every month or so, and keep any files that you use backed up to an external hard drive. It's no hassle to restore an image--sometimes it's less than twenty minutes. When everything is working fine, make an image. Then restore that image when stuff happens.

Hi

@ParrotSlave

. . . . You can literally uninstall and reinstall Norton dozens of times--I know because I do it regularly every time I restore a complete image or use system restore, which is quite frequent- . . . .

What are you using to create/restore an image or are you referring to using the computer restore disk?

What is causing you to do this so frequently?

. . . . since they use a machine ID . . .

Magix also uses the machine ID as well as the serial number - you only see this if you do the registration from another computer or by any available means except on-line.

. . . I'm familiar with the Magix cleaning tool, but it also may not differentiate between different Magix programs . . .

It does differentiate because it asks which program you want to cleanup if you have more than one Magix program installed - it does not affect the other installations IMHO.

. . . . Strangely enough, after that upgrade to Win8.1, the Audio Cleaning Lab also wanted me to register again. . . . .

This appears to be an unfortunate side effect of changes that Win 8.1 makes to the system, some software needs re-installing, repairing or re-registering to fix the problems caused by upgrading to Win 8.1.

. . . . the best insurance is to use a good imaging program, such as Macrium's, to make a complete system image every month or so, and keep any files that you use backed up to an external hard drive. It's no hassle to restore an image--sometimes it's less than twenty minutes. When everything is working fine, make an image. Then restore that image when stuff happens. . . . .

I agree totally - I use Clonezilla, however my technique is different:

My C drive is the sytem drive and never has any data files on it - so I image the computer after first full build and testing then redo the image only when I make major changes, which is rare, 1 or 2 x per year.

My data hard drive is backed up regularly to three identical pairs of external hard drives ( 6 in total) using SyncBack on a schedule.  These drives are only connected/switched on during the backups.  Once a pair of drives are full they are removed from the backup chain and only used if necessary.
