Magix Downloads Folder

Xenofex2 wrote on 8/19/2020, 3:39 PM

Apologies. Admittedly this is not specific to MEP but to Magix products in general of which I have a number.

I am looking for advice please regarding my ‘Magix Downloads’ folder that is on my ‘C Drive’. Seeing my ‘C Drive’ is now in the ‘Red Zone’, I need to take some form of urgent action. As a result I have just noticed that this particular folder accounts for nearly 50% of the total of my ‘George’ Folder, a massive 30.3GB just in Magix Downloads.

Is this folder the equivalent of the usual ‘Downloads Folder’ but specifically for Magix programs? If so, then assume it is alright either to delete everything as the programs have been installed, or a more likely course of action I would take, move them all to a external back-up Drive in case needed at some future date?

George

Hi George.

I can't see any reason they can't be moved. You are referring to the backup copy of MEP aren't you?

Also remember you can re-download the program from your Magix account although you may lose one or two of the third party add-ons at a later date that are time sensitive.

You can wait for a second opinion if you like to be on the safe side.

Ray.

Hi George

. . . . Magix Downloads folder. . . .

You can place this any where you like, mine is on my second hard drive (W:) - create the folder wherever you want it and then point the program to it in the Folder paths settings - below is mine for MEP, VPX etc.

Hi George,

That is where the additional content exe files go by default. I always move them to another drive each time and put them under folders representing the program/version. Doing this makes it faster if you ever have to reinstall. You don't have to download the additional content, just execute the related exe files.

If yours are all mixed up, as Ray says, you can download them again.

Just make sure that all files are exe type files and that you don't have any content, especially your content, in the Downloads folder.

Just to add to what the others say, the possible reason for Magix to setup their own Download folder (MAGIX_Downloads) under Documents folder - and not put it into the existing Downloads folder, I guess is because the Downloads folder might get cleared by disk cleanup tools etc, whereas the Documents folder (and subfolders) remains untouched by such tools and utilities. (Except for the bug Microsoft had in one of their feature packs).

Ray,

It's okay, I won't be doing anything now tonight and as it is my Wife's birthday tomorrow will be out most of tomorrow.

I thought I recall this question being asked before on the Forum but a quick search and I cannot see anything. I also use 'Evernote' to make notes as my reference point to help in the future but nothing there either.

I have though now had another look at my Magix Downloads Folder and it contains a wide mix of Magix programs and extras.Nothing it seems specifically large file size but there are around 70 individual 'applications'. A quick scan down and seemingly only 10 of these 'applications' that suggest were last modified in 2020.

Thanks All,

I have just noticed the extra comments.

Won't be doing anything yet but a quick scan of the comments then there is no reason why not to move these files/applications. They all seem to be related to old downloads anyway.

Hi All,

Just wanted to say thankyou everyone for the advice.

I have now transferred the contents of the Magix Downloads Folder to two external hard drives (so still have a copy if one fails).

Well it maybe stormy outside here in the UK but all on my Computer appears calm.

Thankyou.

George
