Magix Capture Error Message

PETER-SMITH1397 wrote on 8/24/2023, 7:47 PM

Hi Magix,

Keep getting this error message during video capture -

"The recording had to be discontinued for performance reasons. Either your system’s processor is not powerful enough or it does not have enough memory. Switch off the preview function during recording."

The Magix Studio 2023 Suite has been working perfectly and then out of the blue I keep getting this error message. Any suggestions for a fix.

Kind Regards

Peter

Hi Peter.

This is a user to user self help forum so there are no 'Magix people' on the forums.

It's possible you could be running out of unused C: drive space as the program can produce huge temporary swap files while the program is running and working. There could be other reasons or a different one.

The more information you can give us about your system and the type of video you are trying to capture, the more likely someone will have a more accurate answer for you.

One thing you could do is run task manager at the same time you run the program and see if there is any obvious maxing out or excessive use of any of the computers components.

I think the error message gives a very good idea of what the problem also could be (along with the lack of free space on your C:\ drive).

The recording had to be discontinued for performance reasons. Either your system’s processor is not powerful enough or it does not have enough memory. Switch off the preview function during recording."

It is highly possible that your processor is not powerful enough to handle the data throughput that is involved with video capture and/or you have a small amount of RAM (possibly also quite "slow" RAM). What is the spec of your computer? If you put it into your signature it will appear with any post you make and you will not be pestered by other users asking you for it! (My signature will give you some idea of the level of detail that is valuable!)

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell why in Movie Studio 2023 Suite, I click on the red record button to open up Select a Recording Source, but I can’t activate HDV Camera, it won’t open up source in. I can open all other recording selections but HDV Camera.

I had a problem with Movie Studio 2023 Suite, uninstalled and reinstalled the program but can’t access the camera with HDV camera.

My camera is active and present in the program and appears in settings device options.

Should I uninstall and reinstall Movie Studio 2023 Suite

Kind Regards

Peter

It really would be extremely helpful if you did what I requested in my last post to this thread: Please tell us a lot more about your computer!  Thank you. (This may seem tedious and time-consuming to do but it will help us to help you because computer hardware and software can be a severely limiting factor in problems like yours!)

How, exactly, is your HDV camera connected to your computer? If MMS cannot "see" it because it cannot see the connection it simply will not work! Once connected to your computer, does Device Manager list it as connected and working?

Uninstalling and reinstalling is the last thing you should consider doing! The net effect of this, unless you take very great care to ensure everything is removed from the prior installation, is that you can easily make the problem worse.

Hi Jeff,

I am running Windows 10 with no other programs installed but Magix Movie Studio 2023. I had just finished an edit and converted it to an MP4 file to view on another source all went well. I then proceeded to do another edit and render but couldn't open HDV Camera on Select a Recording Source. All the other sources will open. Even if I have forgotten to connect my HD Camera the recording source would still open but would recognize the camera.

My camera is connected by firwire and the camera is being recognized by the Movie Studio Program.

Hi Peter.

The fact you have connected the camera to a fire wire-port, if the port is on the motherboard as opposed to a fire-wire card point to a pc, that motherboard is at most using and Intel Sandybridge processor and an internal GPU no newer than an Intel Graphics P3000. Those GPUs cannot be used by the program even though the program will detect them and try to use them or if you have tried to make the program use them. Nvidia graphics cards from that period are also no longer supported by by the newer versions of the program.

In the program, under File / Program Settings / Device Options / Make sure the Import, Processing, and Export options are all set to CPU.

If none of this is the case, we need to know the precise details of your computer to be of further help.

It is also possible that any update to Windows could have had an effect on the programs' settings.

Ray.

My camera is connected by firwire and the camera is being recognized by the Movie Studio Program.

Pete, could you explain how you've determined this. For example, some camcorders eh Canon HV series have a selectable DV mode and HDV mode. You may not be able to connect using the HDV dialogue but can connect in DV mode.

I then proceeded to do another edit and render but couldn't open HDV Camera on Select a Recording Source.

Were you trying to open HDV camera as part of the edit and render or as a new process?

Could you detail exactly what happens when you click the "HDV Camcorder" button?

@CubeAce

Ray, there is no issue at all using onboard Firewire ports. I used mine for 12 years with all iterations of Windows without issue, without any onboard GPU.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Ray, fair enough, so your comments about firewire ports on motherboards, and iGPU P3000 appear to be irrelevant to the issue ta hand, non-response of a HDV camcorder. Why'd you mention them?

Hi Al.

It pointed to the possible age of the machine in use of which that information had not been forthcoming.

Not irrelevant as such boards mean any GPU could not be used for hardware acceleration even though the program has in the past detected and tried use such components. Windows updates have been know to alter settings in Windows and programs.

Good Morning All,

Thank you everyone for your help and advise. Just about to throw my PC out the window after spending all day to rectify the problem. Shut my PC down and thought I will try again tomorrow. Turned my PC on today and opened Magix Movie Studio 2023. Everything worked and is back to normal. These gremlin are sent to test us. Thanks again to everyone.
