Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 16 deluxe - strange results testing CDs

Nilsolof wrote on 8/27/2013, 1:58 PM

I have burnt several CDs from projects created in ACL 16. When testing and comparing the CD after burning, the answer used to be that there were 0 errors. However, now every time I burn a CD, the testing first tells that one error was found at 00:00:40 or even 00:00:00 and then asks, "Do you want to proceed"? Then testing continues for ten minutes or so.

Today I burnt and tested a 43 minute long music CD, and was told that 228520869 errors were found in the CD. Another CD with talk burnt recently had more than 258000000 errors. Then one could expect not to hear anything...But strangely enough, when listening to these CDs, both ot fhem sound perfectly normal. I have tried two different CD burners, one in the laptop and one external, same results.

So what is wrong - the ACL 16 or all my CD burners?

Hi

. . . . So what is wrong - the ACL 16 or all my CD burners? . . .

More likely the CD's themselves are either:

   -  not capable of being written to at the default speed by the burners - I always burn CD at two speed settings lower then the disc is rated at.

   - you have a variable quality batch of discs - cheap discs especially are prone to this.

John, Thanks for your comments. However, I do not use the cheapest no-name CDs. I use not too expesive, but medium-priced discs of brands such as Verbatim and Maxell. The CD I wrote about was a Verbatim 52x, burned at 8x. Now I tried again to burn the same project in ACL 16, with a Maxell 52x burned at 8x .This got even some more errors: 228757169. I have used the same type of discs for years and this is a new phenomenon, so something seems to have recently  happened to my system. I do not know what...

Hi Nils

I have found Verbatim discs are very reliable and I have not used Maxell for several years however there have reports of variable quality depending on which dye is use and the plant they are produced in.

. . . . so something seems to have recently  happened to my system. I do not know what . . .

Have you had a disc which has set up a lot of vibration in the drives when it has spun up to speed ie 52x or have the burners been very heavily used?

It may be worth running some hardware checks (at your own risk)  on the drives see here

I don't have an answer, but I wanted to say I get the same problem every time I burn a music CD in Version 17 deluxe.  I am using expensive disks, DiskMakers Ultra.  It also happened with Falcon discs, also considered high quality.  I think all the errors are in the original files recorded to the disc before any tracks are burnt, as it always say there are errors at 0:00 and asks if you want to continue.  I do, and the discs all play well.

Has a solution to this glitch been found.  I agree with a previous comment that the problem must be in the initial files burnt to the CD before it begins burning any tracks.
