magix 2023 adding a SINGLE BLACK FRAME to EVERY MOVIE???

Not-Applicable wrote on 8/6/2023, 2:14 PM

I just noticed it seems for ANY processed clip - magix is adding a SINGLE black frame to the end of the movie. How do I stop that?

I.e., I can take any clip (say a 4K video), then click "EXPORT" (i.e., 3840x2160/29.97) - and it adds the stupid extra black frame. (Input rate, i.e., 29.97 is the same as output).

EXTREMELY ANNOYING, especially after I just did a WHOLE bunch of video processing and just noticed that insanely stupid thing it is doing. I have to use another freakin program to take out that last black frame.

Thanks.

Hi

Possible causes are:

  • The source video is Variable Frame Rate - download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue, see this short tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

In the video section of the analysis if you see this line:
    Framerate mode: Variable

then you need to convert the videos to Constant Framerate using a video converter such as Handbrake or AviDemux

  • A stray frame at the end of the timeline - zoom in to frame level ie where you can see the individual frame numbers on the time scale above the timeline and look for a single frame.

  • You have a range set and the end point is past the end of the last clip on the timeline and you have Export selected range only set in the export dialog.

Hi John,

Thanks for the message.

a) Checked, source videos are constant. (ALL of them).
b) I import the clip into magix. I then use the split/scissor tool. (I just re-did this to fully test). Zoomed in - according to Magix - my clip is "cut" perfectly (i.e., no 'black' frames). Zoomed in fully - no black frames. (Not doing anything else - just a simple cut then export).
c) I then export to MPEG-4. Once exported - it now has ONE BLACK FRAME at the very end of the clip. The export is ADDING a black frame.

What should I do to get rid of the bonus feature black frame?

For a second I thought it only did it 'sometimes' - but no - it is actually doing it for EVERY single video. It's only if I do post-post processing in another app does it get rid of it... Ideas?

@Not-Applicable Hi,

This UHD 30fps variable framerate clip with a partial end frame when dragged into MMS is seen as 29.97fps

Exported as 29.97 No cut,  MMS exported the partial end frame (no black frame)

When I cut the media on the timeline & exported as 29.97 I get the black end frame.

But if i change the project to 30fps & then render the cut clip @ 30fps there is no black frame,

---------------

Converting that clip to constant 30fps using Handbrake MMS reads it as 30fps & there is no partial end frame

Cutting that clip & exporting @ 30fps results in no black end frame,

Make of this what you wish, normally you would set or allow the software to set the project to the same frame rate as the media, but in this case............. (avoid 29.97p 🤷‍♂️)

Hi

The source video is Constant framerate, thus the Variable framerate issue often encountered in video editing does not arise with the black frame issue.

I am beginning to wonder if this is a similar issue as I used to have with my first Sony video camera which always produce a video clip with a black frame at the beginning of the recording. The first frame was not the normal I frame (a full image) but a P frame which is a predictive frame holding partial information and imported as black.

To fix the camera issue I used the Crop option in the program settings to remove the Predictive frame, for this issue try cropping the end frame to see if this corrects the export, as shown in the image below

If one frame is not enough try 2 then 3 etc. The maximum theoretical number you should have to go up to can be determined from the MediaInfo analysis line.

Format settings, GOP                     : M=2, N=13

The MediaInfo example above is for a PAL 25fps video clip and would clip just over 0.5 sec from the clip, the value in the NTSC clips will be different and if the issue is not fixed when you reach the N number +1 the I think you will need to raise a Support ticket on the issue.

BTW the NTSC framerates of 23.976, 29.97, 47.95 (??) and 59.94 fps are mathematical abberations caused by an issue which came about with the introduction of colour NTSC - the PAL TV standard does not suffer from this issue.
